You might want to post the valve style as the older valves are not OPD (overfill protection device) equipped and most LP dealers won't/are not allowed to fill them in the U.S. any more.

How to tell: round valve knob with finger ridges = non-OPD valve, 3 cornered valve knob = OPD valve. If they are only 5 years old they should have the later valve.

Thanks; we got lucky there. They are OPD.

I just parked my "new" 73 Hunter compact II in the drive today! I had the same question about the propane tank and fitting. I am planning on repiping the gas line as one of the projects, but am wondering if you can just buy and install a new OPD type of connector, so I can camp in between projects?

You just replace the old tank with a new one with the opd valve. The existing regulator will still connect as the later tanks have a dual thread set-up for early and late systems. BUT... if yours still has the original regulator, it's a good idea to replace it at the same time . On Hunters it's a standard BBQ tank.

Where are you at in CA? If in SoCal you can stop and look at ours if you like. It's going to Yosemite in a few weeks if you are in the valley.
