So I spent a few minutes with Chrome Development Tools (most of which is over my head) and concluded the high CPU usage is related to Javascript on the fiberglassrv pages(s). Disabling Javascript for this site has returned my CPU to near idle speed, and so far no negative effects have been seen with the possible exception of the pages loading slower.
EDIT: It appears that the editor does not fully function with Javascript off.

This high CPU load is NOT seen on the Escape forum, which is another Social Knowledge LLC site with similar (or the same) software.

Thanks for that Gordon. My laptop is much calmer now!

I did some more profiling...

looks like the major amount of wasted CPU is being spent in 'garbage collection' (GC), and this is being triggered by 'vapi-client.js', functions portPoller() and destroyPort() which appear to be triggered by timers. There appear to be 4-5 different things being invoked every ~1 second which are hammering things.

I'm on a fairly fast desktop PC (core i5-3570, 4 cores running at 3.4Ghz, with 16GB ram)

Good work.. it appears there are methods to disable specific scripts.. that way the problem could be isolated. Perhaps this will work...
