Forum is useless if ya can’t close ads.

See title. The only way I could even comment is to open a new browser.

This is exactly what I have been experiencing, and what I reported, but without pictures. Hopefully something can be done about it.

The problem most likely isn't with the forum, but the ad provider. Their ad server is probably slow and doesn't completely load, so there's no option to close the ads, or they have a scripting issue that affects your browser. Try installing adblock. Works on PC, Mac, iOS and Android.

I don't allow popups on my browser. It means I can't automatically read private messages in a separate window, but that's a very minor inconvenience.

cant close

I haven't had this sort of problem! I run an adblocker no idea what it does but on occasion have other problems of the computer going into its own world.

usually a hard boot fixes it!

good luck

I c u guys are accessing this through an iPad. I dont have any problems on a PC using Mozilla Firefox. I'm taking that you're using Safari or is it the FGRV app?

I use Safari on my Macbook. I have "block popups" checked in Safari prefs. I don't see these, just he ads in the sidebars. I have complained to several sys admins on several sites about non-relavant ads, especially drugs, skin, etc. Some admins have made efforts to change. Most blame third party ad providers and just cash their checks.

I use an ad blocker on my PC with google chrome. I don't even get the side bar ads. I also don't get ads on my android phone.

I too run an ad blocker. But, I whitelist sites that I want to prosper, like FGRV. That means sidebar ads, but not pop ups. No site should use pop ups. On some sites that I would like to whitelist the ads are so disgusting I block them anyway. The ads on FGRV are sometimes relevant and rarely disgusting, so I help the owner out with a bit of ad revenue. I value this resource.

YMMV, john

I too use a iPad when accessing this site and as time goes by the problem is getting worse. FGRV so far is the only site where I experience this issue.
Btw. Pop up blocker is on....

Sid, I also had the same problem with my iPad on this site only.
I installed the adblocker link above and it took care of the problem.

Thanks Robert, I don’t get any ads on this site anymore!

Ok then, my conclusion is that an iPad is useless if ya can't block ads! And I will probably download that blocker too, thanks for suggesting it.

You're welcome. I don't like having to use one, but if it's the only way to enjoy the site, so be it.

Same here: use iPad, pop-up blocker is on, ad looks just like Post #1 with background darkened, only happens on FGRV. Tonight it was almost impossible to use the forum, so I downloaded the ad blocker as stated in Post #3, and so far the ad has not shown up.

Why do I only get this in FGRV, and only since this thread was started. As soon as I opened the thread the other day, I immediately had the ad/with background darkened pop up on my iPad.

I use an ad blocker/popup blocker too. Never an ad on this site. Just now I opened the page and 7 ads were blocked. Never saw them.

At some point this site will join others that I've encountered that detect you are using an ad blocker. They give you a choice of disabling the ad blocker or leaving the site.
Got to pay the bills some how.
