Help with FiberglassRV App

Following discussion with a couple of the administrators, I am posting some instructions for those new to using the FiberglassRV App. I am especially interested in feedback from users on Android platforms, since I developed and tested these instructions on my iPhone. Thanks! Jon

General Information
The FiberglassRV app allows you to access forums, messages, and user profiles from a mobile device. It automatically formats posts for display on your device.

Some features of the website, such as the registry, galleries, and document center are not available on the app, and some of the available features have limited functionality.

You can always access all the features of the FiberglassRV website using the web browser on your mobile device.

Viewing Posts
From the home screen (Browse) you can navigate to any forum and sub-forum of interest. Tapping on a thread will open it. The back arrow at the upper left allows you to return to the list of threads.

Tapping the three bars in the upper left corner brings up a menu of additional options.
Timeline brings up threads with recent posts in reverse chronological order.
Participated brings up threads in which you have posted.
Subscribed brings up threads to which you are subscribed. To subscribe or unsubscribe from a thread, click on the three-dot icon in the upper right. Choose “subscribe” or “unsubscribe.”
Unread brings up threads containing posts you have not read.

You can choose to have threads open at the first post, the last post, or the first unread post. From the main menu, scroll down to “Settings” and select “Read Order” to set your preference.

Occasionally, some part of a post may not display correctly in the app. Tap on the post and select “Web View” to see the original post.

Posting and New Threads
To post a reply in a thread you are viewing, use the quick reply box at the bottom of the screen or tap the three-dot icon at the upper right and choose “Reply.” Compose your response and tap reply in the upper right corner.

You can put your response on hold to look back at the thread, check a user profile, etc., by tapping on “Cancel” and choosing “Save Draft.” Later (during the same FiberglassRV session) you can choose “Reply” again and restore your draft.

To quote another post in a reply, tap on the post and choose “Quote.” If you delete portions of the original post, be careful not to delete the bracketed quote indicators so the quote will display correctly.

To start a new thread, use the “Browse” menu to navigate to the appropriate forum and sub-forum. Tap on the three-dot icon in the upper right and choose “New Topic.”

To edit a previously submitted post, tap on the post, choose “Edit,” make corrections, and tap “Save.” The edit function is only available for a limited time. After that, you must contact a moderator to edit or delete a post.

As a general internet safety precaution, do not include personal contact information in any public post.

Attaching Pictures
The FiberglassRV app allows you to attach pictures directly from the camera or from the albums on your mobile device. Start by opening a new post or thread.

To take a picture from your camera, tap on the camera icon at the bottom of the post. Take a picture. Then choose either “retake” or “upload.” You won’t see the picture, but an attachment will appear in your post. Repeat for additional pictures.

To upload a picture from your albums, tap on the picture icon at the bottom of the post. Select the picture you want, then choose “upload.” Again, you won’t see the picture, but an attachment will appear in your post. Repeat for additional pictures.

It may be necessary to change the privacy settings on your mobile device to allow FiberglassRV access to the camera and albums.

Private Messages
The FiberglassRV app allows you to send and receive private messages to and from forum members. To view your messages, select “Messages” in the main menu.

There are two ways to send a message.

Tap on the avatar in a post by the forum member you want to contact. This will take you to the member’s user profile. Tap on the envelope icon in the upper right corner. Compose your message, then tap “send.”

Choose “Messages” from the main menu. Tap on the pencil icon in the upper right corner. Begin typing the user name of the person you want to contact. A list of possible matches will pop up. Tap on the person you want, compose your message, and tap “send.”

Private messages are the recommended way to exchange personal contact information with another forum member.

Searching
Choose “Search” from the main menu. Type your search phrase and tap on “search.” You can tap the funnel icon in the upper right corner to filter search results.

The “Search” function also pulls up a list of recent searches. You can return to an earlier search by tapping the arrow on the right.

The Google search, which generally gives better results, is not available from the FiberglassRV app. To access it from a mobile device, use your device’s web browser to go to the FiberglassRV website.
