I love using the Default skin... I never see any ads and the blue is much, much easier on my old eyes.

You actually read those things? Don't tell me you watch commercials too.

Oops, bad omen here, I just looked up and saw an ad for Family Feud. Hope we don't start one here over this.

Talking Phone not internet

I just heard of something someone did with their phone. I wonder if the internet could do it too.
What he did is he has two phone lines, one for family and close friends and one for business and other strangers. The second is a special type that charges the caller and pays a percentage to the callee. I understand he made $500 already. $$$$$

British man turns the tables on telemarketers by charging them to call him

If I charged people to call me on business, I think I would quickly lose them as customers. Not sure I see the purpose of that. I haven't heard of it either.

The advertisers on the Google ads do pay down to the site owners indirectly, at least a small fee anyway.

How could he keep the calls he does want from being charged. If I knew someone who was doing this, no matter a friend or not, I would get pretty annoyed.

If you read the article, you'd see he has another completely different line for friends and family.

Pretty ingenious actually.

But, how does he direct the solicitation calls away from this other line is what I was wondering. If I had two lines, they would likely just come in on both. I do like the concept, just can't wrap my head around how to make it work is all.

I would think anytime someone asks for your phone number, and it's NOT a family or friend... give the "charge" number out. I think it's

Most of the unwanted calls you get are from a computer that generates random calls. And you always have the option of not giving out your number, when dealing with humans.

Keep your private line unlisted.
Publish your pay to call line. I don't know about you people but my incoming telemarketing calls go through the roof when the new directory is released. I'm supposed to be on the telemarketing "do not call list".

Not sure how all this would work with the telemarketers that are calling over the internet with phished caller ID's. The newest twist to their scams.

I just love playing with the guys that call from india about duct cleaning. I keep them on the line for as long as I can. I tell them this is Canada, We've got Geese here - not Ducks and they are filthy things. I'd love to have somebody come and clean their mess. Can you clean Geese? There is Gander Dander all over the place.

The 'do not call' list can only be enforced within Canada, so companies outside Canada, use the 'do not call' list for phone numbers. Brilliant.

Presumably, he is paying for two lines?
I usually don't answer if I don't recognize the number. If I do answer and it's a telemarketer, I just gently put the receiver down and let them talk to nobody.

I just cancelled my landline, problem solved. With the telemarketers, bill collectors, and hoe's calling at all hours for the previous guy that had it, I was starting to flip out. Phone company told me I would have to pay to cancel my line and start a new one...I said ok, cancelled my line...when they asked me about starting the new one, I hung up on them.

I did sell his boat in storage for him, and turned his buddy in for theft that stole the necklace he wanted...cops were looking for him for 9 months.

For the ads, firefox and adblock I use avast antivirus, but don't worry much about it. I keep two external hard drives mirrored to mine. Every 2-4 weeks, I mirror it over to the oldest backup. If I get something, just wipe the whole hard drive out and reload.
