Making FGRV a great place for everyone

Recently we've had a spate of discussion topics derailed by comments that have been overly critical, harsh and down right mean-spirited.

This forum is here to provide an opportunity for fiberglass egg owners and want to be owners to interact with each other, to exchange knowledge, assist with problems and develop friendships. All members should be comfortable in posting, knowing that they will be treated with respect and consideration by others.

Sadly some members no longer feel comfortable enough to even join into a conversation. When a topic is hijacked by comments that attack another members opinion or personal view point, we lose the fundamental intent of the board and often the member’s original question goes unanswered, and this simply cannot continue. Its important that ALL members have the opportunity to contribute, and to learn.

We are receiving almost daily communication from members about this issue, and want to be very clear about the need for this to end.

It's fine to hold an alternative opinion and post it but it's not acceptable to post snarky, condescending comments or directly insult another member or their opinion even if you believe it's an incorrectly held one. State your point, share your information and then move on. Find a way to do this respectfully and with no digs. Do not insult or ridicule the choices or preferences of others.

Moving forward we are going to remove inflammatory comments as we find them, and we encourage members to use the report post function to do the same. If your post is removed you will receive a note via PM about the issue. If there is a recurring problem further action may be taken.

FGRV was founded so that folks with similar interests in camping with molded fiberglass trailers could learn from each other in a collegial way. We are returning to our roots in this regard and ask you to help us.
  • Think before you post.
  • Be part of the solution to an issue rather than increasing drama and rancor, and treat others as you would face to face around a campfire.
  • If you see a problem please use the report post function to flag it for the site team's attention and if you are tempted to respond to a trolling post, please don't. The best way to handle these is to report them and decline to argue (do not engage) with the poster.

Thanks for contributing and for making FGRV the friendliest place on the web. We appreciate it!

This direction we wish to see the FGRV forum move towards was the result of lots of discussions with members voicing their concerns, via PMs or in person at rallies, then further discussion amongst the Site Team.

Please feel free to discuss, and bring forward any questions for clarification you may have.

Thank you. A lack of courtesy and respect seems to be common and obviously has chilled participation. I hope you are successful is restoring things. Raz

Well stated. I for one have NOT sent any foul messages or those of ill intent, and never will. This site is absolute FUN, what it should be. I love this site and read of others travels, improvements, and tips. This is the way it should be and nothing else, its about FUN!

Congratulations to the moderators; this is an extremely well run web site.

I think this is a happy friendly place. The ratio of appropriate to inappropriate posts is extremely low in my view. Every communication can have have an inappropriate or even misunderstood respond. It's always easy to read and remember the irking post, even though they are well in the minority.

Part of the issue for me is related to the rapid response nature of web sites, not thinking about what I'm writing long enough.

In summary this is a good, well run site, making it better is worthwhile.

I agree. Please remove these people who get a power fix from being nasty from a distance. Also good to remind folks not to "rebuke" people who ask a question, telling them that they shouldnt have needed to ask that or telling them where else they could have gotten that info. Leave it up to the poster to answer or not. And please dont tell us not to post our contact info. We are grown ups and we can decide if we want our email public or not. I, for one, advertise my email address everywhere on purpose. As my Grampa used to say "If you cant say anything nice, dont say anything at all." Thank you, admins for keeping this site nice.

Well written, easily understood and very, very much appreciated! Thank you.

I must admit to having been saddened by some of those comments and it made me stay away.
But, because of the vast majority of forum members being so friendly, polite and helpful, I came back....only to have that same scenario repeated.

I thank you again for putting into words the feelings that I share.

Thank you Jim. Over time I have learned much good information here, but have also learned to not comment on many topics that have historically turned argumentative. I'll continue to do so.

I can't take credit for the original post. It was a combined effort of the entire site team. I just posted it.

Thank you for the good reminder. I know that I have felt the flames from some when I didn't think I deserved it.
