Missing Security Token

After 2 years the Threads software is now telling me I am missing a security token on my pictures. What does this mean?

Are they hi-rez? Try resizing; maybe 600X800 pixels.

Sometimes its a matter of clearing your cookies and history to correct a security token problem if it keeps happening.

Hi, Norm - both are good suggestions, but my money's on humongous image files. I don't know why it generates a "security token" message instead of just saying "Hey, the pics are too big, Buddy" - maybe there are several conditions that give this message...

Sensible error messages are against the rules. It is possible that an admin logged in would have a "security token" that allowed them to violate the general rules (say picture size).

Sometimes if an operation takes too long the token to do whatever your doing can expire also. Have seen that with over long uploads.

That being known conditions good design would argue for capturing what the user perceives they are doing and what process the code is doing so at least the message is meaningful. "Security token not valid when converting uploaded image" for example.

The creators of a delivery system are sometimes more concerned with the system than with the delivery. That's another way of saying that insider jargon creates more questions than it answers. Chief among the reasons I can't interpret a billing statement for medical services.

I'll try reducing the size though I'd be surprised since I've used the same camera, my Blackberry, and same resolution for this entire year but eho knows....only the Shadow knows..

There are soooo many moving parts that have to work for any web application like this forum to communicate with your computer and do anything. It's amazing it ever works.

Server could have been running a bit slow, could have been congestion at one of the lord knows how many routers carrying your traffic. A single 0 or 1 that got "corrupted" in your token key, at your end, in transit, or on the matching part of the key on the server would do it. Some single bit off in the application or operating system that just happens to get hit this time. Applies to your end or the server hosting the forum.

Think about it, if you have 4 Gig of ram that is 4 x 1,048,576 bytes, a server may well have up to 64 Gig of ram. There can be a single bad byte and it can create a problem but only when that specific byte is used. AND there are systems to error correct that can make the bad "spot" still work most of the time, or maybe it is "stuck" on 0 so you have a 50/50 chance that when you use it your going to store a 0 rather than a 1. So it works.... half the time.

It's sort of like having 4 million tooth flywheel gear, how many times would you have to start and stop the car to end up with the starter on the one "bad" gear tooth.

You think tracking down a trailer light problem is painful. Well yes it is but this internet stuff is crazy painful. Sometimes the best bet is a good witch doctor and a chicken sacrifice.

Like I said it sometimes amazes me that this stuff works at all.

Just got the same error trying to upload. Same size images from the same camera most of my uploads have been from.

"Your submission could not be processed because a security token was missing.

If this occurred unexpectedly, please inform the administrator and describe the action you performed before you received this error."

I did send the admins a note.

Just got word from the admin, says it's likely the images are too large. But they are not any bigger than the dozens of others from the same camera I've posted before.

Is it possible something have changed on the server side? Or perhaps if the server is heavily loaded it might take longer to process an image and time out? I'd really rather not have the additional step of downsizing as part of my image posting routine. But perhaps it's worth trying, just for debugging if for no other reason.

Or maybe someone responsible for security was "tokin' up" and has gone missing?

I successfully loaded the picture I was previously unable to load. I made no changes to the picture or to my computer. The picture was only 200Kb, half the size limit therefore it was not picture size. This morning it loads first try.

Another mystery.. but a small one.

I get that error message all the time. I just figure it's going to take me twice to get a photo(s) to upload. I never do anything different, just takes twice.

Goofy.

I got it to work consistantly today with only two images. When I tried 3, it failed more times than not. Same type images as I've always used.
