Something is wrong with Bobbie Mayer's post in Problem Solving "Window handles". When I click on last post or on the topic title, I am automacticly shut off the web.
This is not happening with any other posts. I hope this is not a bad problem.

Linda, try logging off FiberglassRV (if you remember your password!!), reboot your PC, then log back in....see if that helps.

If not, let us know.

Linda, try clearing your web browser cache. That should clear up the problem.

Hi Linda,

You will find you can control the cache of Web pages by adjusting the space for Temporary Internet pages.

Go to [b]Tools >> [b]Internet Options >> [b]General >> click [b]Settings.

On this page you can click one of four options to check for newer versions of the stored page. I have Every visit to page checked.

Then you can move the slider to the left to limit space and force fresh files to be down loaded. (this does slow down you viewing because it is refreshing all the files.)

I hope this helps.

PS: I’m a Mac guy (mostly), so anyone with greater PC knowledge is welcome to help out here.

It is important to know what Operating System you have (Win98, WinXP, etc.)?

Also what version on IE yoiu have (6.0, 7.0, etc.)?

How long has it been since you scanned your harddrive for errors?

How long has it been since you defragmented your harddrive?

Answer these questions and someone will be better able to help you with your problem.

If this didn't help, you need to clear all the buffers:

- Open IE
- Click TOOLS
- Click Internet Options
- Click DELETE FILES
- Click DELETE COOKIES
- Click CLEAR HISTORY
- Click OK.

If this dosen't fix it you will have to reinstall IE. You do this by either inserting you WinXP Home Edition CD or the OEM recovery disk into the CDROM Drive and follow the instruction for restoring IE.

I believe that this does clear the "cache"; Microsoft just doesn't use the word "cache", instead referring to cached files as "temporary internet files".

At a guess, I suspect this has nothing to do with the web page contents. There is likely some security software or "malware" at work, killing connections to "windows" sites, either as some deliberate attempt to keep the user from doing Windows updates (maybe security software?), or as a Microsoft-hater's virus or similar unwanted program (a virus is an example of "malware").

If this happened to me, I would ensure that my virus-scanning software was up-to-date, then run a scan of the whole computer. If Internet Explorer has been corrupted by a virus, that should find it. If it is just corrupted (needing an update or reinstallation), I would expect a lot more problems, or at least not this specific behaviour.

Information is good. Lack of information is not so good, but misinformation is much worse. Check facts, and apply common sense liberally.
