Editing your signature may not be as simple as it seems. There is no universal replace for signature as there is for avatar. Your current "edit" effects only subsequent posts.

When you edit your signature, each and every post you have ever made will reflect the changes when viewed again, just like your avatar.

Is there a reason we can't post a picture in the sig block?

Yes. Two reasons: space (bandwidth and screen real estate), and since they are repeated every time you post, we strive for sig files to be simple (not distracting)... although I suppose some would argue my okra smiley is a little distracting.

Thank you Mary. This is the pic I was thinking about. But rules are rules and I can live with that.

If you have not used a signature in past posts, a newly created signature will be displayed only in posts made subsequent to the creation of the signature. There is no universal replace for signature in the commonly accepted meaning of the phrase.

Not understanding you completely, Jack. Basically, whatever you edit your signature to display, it will display that way in all posts you make, or made before, even if you never had a signature before. The info is loaded by the software to reflect changes at that moment.

Give it a try, you will see. If you delete your signature so you don't have one, then post that way, then go back and add something to your signature, it will display that on the post made without one. I did first try it to make sure I knew of what I spoke.

Check any post made by me earlier than 23 Aug. the date on which I decided to play with this toy. No signature.

"Extrapolate from incomplete data"… isn't that what we all do here?

As a math teacher, and based on the admittedly incomplete data set consisting of my former students, I will extrapolate to make the following generalization:

There are three types of people in the world: those who can count, and those who can't.

For the above post, I had cleared out my signature, showing nothing. When I posted no signature. I went back to a post a year ago, no signature. When I edited again, it showed up once more in every post. That proves it, I am special.

Check any post made by me prior to 23 Aug. and you will find that that my current signature does not appear. I have no idea what causes this. I apparently am also special. I see below the quick reply block that I have the "show your siggy" block checked. Perhaps I did not have that block checked in 2500+ messages.

I have no signature. I am who I am in my profile, no strange screen name for me. But, it looks like I've owned a 2014 Escape 5.0TA since the Nov. 12, 2005 (big HACK date) .... the Scamp has completely disappeared in all my posts.

Thumbs up

You're funny sometimes, Donna. Your short list of camping toys is in the signature block. In FGRV forum argot, it is your signature.

I know Jack... but my profile changed everything. Not from the date of the change, but from the beginning of "time."

Guess I should "update" my signature. Now, how is that done?

"Your signature contains too many lines and must be shortened. You may only have up to 4 line(s). Long text may have been implicitly wrapped, causing it to be counted as multiple lines."
