I'm missing something pretty basic here. I've inserted a photo in my signature in the past but can't figure out how I did it. I want to change it and I'm stumped. Nothing came up when I did a search specifically for signature photos. Thanks for your help.

Sebastian, we'd actually prefer you remove the picture from your signature altogether and put it under your name in your profile (left side area). The information about that is found in the first post in this topic from webguy for the reason: Some minor changes

This is the important stuff:
Quote:
Photos in the signatures cause an extreme amount of bandwidth because they load hundreds of times where people post multiple times in one thread. Personally I like them and think they add to the sense of community we have here. The issue is the size of the photos and the amount of “LOAD” they cause. The little icons in the signatures really do not cause much load. The photos of personal trailers and or tow rigs do cause quite a bit more load.
To remove the picture, click on "My Controls" and then on the left nav bar under "Personal Profile," click on "Edit Signature."

To use a new picture as an avatar under your name, see Using Avatars

Let us know if you have any questions or problems.

Hey, but we DO want them in your avatar (the little pic beneath your name, to the left of each post).

Go into [b]My Controls, and look under [b]Personal Profile for [b]Edit Avatar Settings. Thanks, y'all!!

And remember, before you add an avatar pic, its filesize must be reduced to 8k.

So the 'image scale on' thing won't resize your image to the proper pixels?

I think this problem could be avoided with a simple explanation of what you mean by Avatar, and signature. I couldn't change my Avatar since I didn't know what Avatar referred to. I guess I could have asked my daughter, but I'm not sure she would know either.

So, now all I have to do is find a picture for my sig.......)

Sorry, hate emoticons......)

FGRV post on using avatars, found at the top of our Basic Website Tutorials forum index.

Wikipedia article on the term, Avatar (as used in computing)

Hope this helps.

What is an Avatar?

An avatar is a small image that appears when you post to the forums and when you comment on any posts anywhere. It’s your profile picture. The avatar should be 75 x 75 pixels square.

On your profile you can upload any jpg, png, or gif image. After that your avatar will begin to appear next to your comments when you’re logged in. Comments with avatars tend to get read more.

As you can see from my Avatar, I figured it out some time ago. But, I call it a picture.

Right. Image = picture.

But more then that it is YOUR personal icon or graphic representation. Thus the term “Avatar”. Have you seen Donna D’s? The chosen Avatars seem to be very interesting because they show a side of a person’s personality.

I was under the impression that an Avatar was a representation of what you want to be or some fantasy figure for game playing. I note that lots of these "Avatars" are actually just portraits of the member. That's why I question the use of the word in this case. But, no matter. There are more important issues, like when to take early retirement. I believe I'll retire now.
