A Must Stop: Clear Creek RV Park Golden, CO

Seems like every trip we take out west we do a stop over in the Denver area.

We stumbled across this gem on a trip last year. Since then, we make sure we always stop here for at least a couple of nights. Golden is a fun town, lots to do!

This campground is right downtown, Golden Colorado. It is owned and managed by the city of Golden. It is right on the creek, bike path, and a short walk to downtown with coffee shops, restaurants and more.

As with many urban campgrounds, sites are on the small side, but hey, this is a FG camper forum, right?

There are bike paths all over town, so if you are a cyclist, plan to do some riding.

Be sure to make reservations, as they only have a handful of sites, and they seem to always be full!

The price of $45 seems very expensive. There's an alternative to this. There's a Bear Creek Lake Park in Lakewood and they have a beautiful campground with showers, etc. It was wonderful and only about $22 per night with electric. It's at C470 and Morrison Rd. We stayed for 5 nights in May.

Not cheap for sure, it was the most expensive campground we stayed at on our last trip. But if you want a downtown location, walk to everything, its worth it. Golden has a very nice downtown, lots of restaurants, bars, shops, and so on.

And if you do stay there, visit the Colorado School of Mines Geology Museum. It is one of the best of its kind, only a short walk from the campground. It is free admission and they have a Moon rock brought back by the Apollo astronauts. Colorado is all about rocks.

The Bear Creek Lake Park is not very far from Golden. It is also fairly close to Costco and many other huge stores and mall. For about $23 per night I would prefer to drive a little. After all we all have a tow vehicle. There is also a bike trail connecting to all the huge stores and lots of other places from the campground. Denver has a lot of bike trails since the traffic is bad.
