First, thanks much to everyone who has responded to posts regarding getting the camper ready to go!

Drove down to Glen Rose, TX Friday afternoon (28 Jul) to spend the night and visit the Dinosaur Valley State Park the next day. Stayed at Oakdale Park in Glen Rose - nice enough and not crowded at all. Cost $24.50 per night for a 30-Amp - you pick your spot. Check out oakdalepark.com for more info. HUGE pool and the owner and friends spent Friday night pickin' in the office/snack bar area. Very friendly staff.

Got the camper set up without problems - power was the first thing established for the A/C, afternoon temp was peaking over 100F. Ran off the 20-gallon internal tank since I haven't gotten around to fixing the city water inlet (cracked). Everyone ran off to the pool so the travel, janitorial, security, and maintenance staff (me) cooled it and caught up on some reading.

After breakfast, drove to the Dinosaur Valley park for dinosaur tracks and general playing in the river. VERY impressive array of fossilized tracks and good information.

Back for lunch and then packed up and headed back. Family enjoyed it and no major problems - so nice first trip!

Only problem I did have was having a rivet holding one of the window stays to the window break on the return trip. Think I'll drill it out and replace with a stainless screw/washer/aircraft nut unless someone advises better.

Thanks!
Steve

Sounds like you had a great time

The rivet broke for a reason. If you replace with a nonbreaking fastener, wouldn't the fiberglass break instead I'd replace the broken rivet with another rivet and keep an eye on it. Better to replace rivets than repair fiberglass

Here's a couple of pics of my problem window - I've replaced the rivets in both stays already and as you can see, the left one broke again on the trip. The thin aluminum bar has notches to hold the window out at a couple of angles, then you pull the bar in and fold it up to close the window.

Now that you can see what I'm talking about, any further thoughts?
Thanks much!
Steve

Steve, you might post your question again in our Problem Solving forum.

Some of our best problem solvers don't regularly read these Campground Reports.
