any suggestions for camping in the Pasadena area ?

not having much luck finding campgrounds within a reasonable range of Pasadena or greater north-of-LA... next year this time we'd like to visit NASA/JPL for their annual open house, and we'd like to spend 1-2 nights down there...

any suggestions ? oh, we don't mind boondock camping, as long as there's room for our 21' Escape + F250 longbed... we'd like to be within an hours drive of the north side of JPL on the north side of Pasadena...

I just tried the RVParkReview app and found a few within 30 miles, just north of Pomona. East Shore RV Park has good ratings.

Good luck with your search, I am interested in what you find out as well.

The 2016 North American RV Travel & Savings Guide put out by the Good Sam Club, shows campgrounds at:
LaCanada - a National Forest C.G. the Horse Falls C.G. has pit toilets.
it is off the I-210 n.w. of Pasadena.

San Dimas, EAST SHORE RV PARK, is East of Pasadena, is a Good Sam Park. by Puddingstone Lake.

We stayed at the fairgrounds in Lancaster. Very clean rest rooms, water and electricity on a large paved area. Very cheap, all things considered.

Hi John, I have no idea if your RV will fit, but there are a few campgrounds in the Angeles national forest north of Pasadena. I've lived in Pasadena for 12 years, and only discovered them earlier this week! We stayed at the Horse Flats campground Tuesday night and we were only one of three groups there. It's first come, first served camping, $12 (cash or cheque) a night, though with Interagency and Senior Pass discounts. It was magical! Quiet, clean and well maintained. Also a 73 minute drive from our home in east Pasadena. A check of "campgrounds in Angeles national forest" will show you what is available. Calling the visitors centre (open weekends, 9-4) at Chilao campground - (626) 796-5541 - wouldn't be a back option either. Good luck!

Fairgrounds can be a great secret campground. Many fairgrounds are open year round for camping except during their fairs. Camping tends to be basic.

+1 on Chilao
+1 East shore is a nice spot especially by the lake.

My favorite is Buckhorn but it's first come first serve, so you have to be there on thurs morning to find a spot.

The SOI RV Club (I don't know what the letters stand for.) offers an interesting camping trip for the Pasadena Rose Parade. They camp at the racetrack there. I do not believe it is otherwise open for camping, but it's worth asking SOI members. They may be able to help with other nearby camping locations.

Actually the Pomona/Fairplex KOA in Pomona is only a hop, skip, and a jump via 210. There are a few KOA's that I don't mind promoting, and this is one.

I live close by.

East shore campground is a nice place but the camp sites are city camping. Its on the shore of pudding stone lake which resides in the Bonelli park system. Very nice park with bike trails and walking paths.

I have camped there and like the small camp sites on the ridge on the east side, your up high over looking the lake and the small airport on the east side of the ridge. I like the pretty lights at night. your truck and trailer are too big for those ridge sites.

The fairplex KOA is a hole you don't want to step in.

That is the closest places to camp in the Pasadena area.

You will enjoy the JPL Tour its so worth the hassles to get there. Just be early, very early, Its allot of walking in a hillside valley so be prepared.
