We do see the white stuff on occasion in Arizona.
This was at Dead Horse State Park in Cottonwood, AZ last week. Of course two days later it was in the mid-70's...

The kids caught fresh Rainbow Trout later in the week and had their first lake to BBQ fish dinner.

Here is an actual recreation of a route 66 diner in Oldtown Cottonwood...

Hmmmmm, burgers!!!!!

Dead Horse is a nice park and a great location for touring the old mining town of Jerome, and the new-age mecca of Sedona.

Hi Greg...sorry I missed you at Dead Horse...we were there the previous week-Mar.3-8 - did Jerome, Sedona and the "Canyon"
Yes, it was cold at night...unplug the water and turn on the Pelonis.
We had our snow (2") in Patagonia SP earlir in the trip Feb 11-19.
Last night in east Texas was the first night in nearly three months we didnt run the heater.
Thanks for your camping tips earlier (you hadn't mentioned Lake Pleasant Regional...we gave it a week but it has reached it's "sell by" date)
Loved Picacho. Roper Lake,AZ; Silver City, Elephant Butte,NM; and Big Bend TX.
Homeward bound now...we will stay with Doug & Kathy Roach in TN (readers may recall their postings from Miami and Emily) Back in Canada some 10,000miles later - surviving three months in a 13" Trill.
Happy camping...Alistair

Hi Alistair,

Glad to hear you had such a successful trip. Sounds like you covered some good areas.
I actually forget about Lake Pleasant, cause it's practically attached to our house but I hear good things about the camping there. Wish we could have hooked up at Dead Horse, maybe next year.
Be safe on your way back North.

Greg,
RE: Seeing the white stuff, one June morning we woke up to a simular scene while camping at Sugarite Canyon State Park near Raton, NM. We decided to do a day trip over into Colorado to Bent's Old Fort Hist'l Site by La Junta, CO. Lower elevation there and warm. This was back a few years, late '80s for sure. It had only been open a short time.

Alistair,
Sounds like a nice 3 month trip. We stopped at Roper once, just got some H2O but did not stay. We over-nighted at Pichaco in the early '70s (it was a fairly new park at the time). We have camped in the Gila and at City of Rocks by Silver City. We use to spend a lot of time at Elephant Butte when we had a ski boat. We have gone to Big Bend for a Spring Break for a few days.

We have not gone to Dead Horse, nor Patagonia SP, nor have done Jerome & Sedona. We have gone by the "Canyon" twice on the south side and once on the north.

Except for City of Rocks, we have not stayed at any of them in an Egg.

We stopped by a Dead Horse SP by Moab, UT one summer. One of these days we must try Dead Horse and Patagonia.

I take our Scamp in to get a Converter replaced on Monday, perhaps after that we can get on the road again.

AWar

My very first trip out in my very first FGRV I got a similar dusting to that.

It helped to re-enforce WHY I went to all the expense and trouble. I got to use all my stuff at once, and I was so happy to have a heater.

Even tho I didn't get to do outdoor camping things that nite, I was probably never so snug in my life. (I was a little *smug* too.. I was the only trailer among freezing tenters)

I actually helped out some parents and let their kids stay in the trailer for a bit to keep warm. It was nice to be able to help someone else.

Hi gang...almost home!got across the Ambassador Bridge at Detroit/Windsor to my daughter's for a few days rest b4 heading the remaining 540 kms to home along the 401.
Left Canada on Jan13...crossed back on the 7th of April. just under 10000miles...from Big Bend to the Grand Canyon and back across the Mississippi for the Natchez Trace (Marvelous!!!) on to Elvis' birthplace in Tupelo, Shreveport's Boardwalk, Vicksburg's Casino CG and up to the Roach's new digs in Johnson City for three days R&R with Kathy & Doug.
Worst part of the whole trip...this afternoon on I 75 ...especially the hellacious detour to the bridge via 275 bad roads worse drivers and high speed rush hour. But hey...one half day out of 80 plus days ain't bad. Inge and I are still on speaking terms after 3 months in a 13 footer (thanks in no small part to "Gertie" the Garmin GPSer). We now have to do a few minor fixes, a lot of cleaning, and get ready for Emily.

Hi greg
I just putt putted through cottonwood this week. Stayed at dead horse too. The hikes along the river are just outstanding. It was a bit ummmmm hotter than you had it. I turned on the AC one afternoon LOL
I didn't do the hamburger joint but Jerome was a real trip. I pulled the egg up over that winding road all the way to Prescott.

Hey Ron,

Sounds like you had a great trip. We probably just missed you as we just got back from Dead Horse.
Ran the AC days, but nights were still wonderful. We probably won't go back to Dead Horse now until late October as it is too hot in the daytime. We use it for the winter months and move up closer to Flagstaff or White Mountains in the summer.
There is a campground at the top of the pull from Jerome to Prescott that is supposed to be pretty good, but have never tried it.

Hey you two I admire your courage to set out in a 13ft Trillium. I did that same trip in a Conversion Van and it felt pretty tight with 2 after awhile. I don't know if you noticed but I have a 4500, live near Campbelfford and am looking to downsize to a smaller trailer "13" ft. If you know of anyone that wants to trade a 13 Boler or
Trillium they can call me at 705-653-0231. See you at Emily. Cheers Donna D
