Big Bend

Just returned from another great visit to Big Bend NP. We spent the first three days at Rio Grande Village - Site 23 is well secluded and, despite the recreation.gov warning about being unsuitable for rv's and campers, was perfect for our 19' Scamp. There were two 17' Casitas already set up when we arrived and we spent an hour or so chatting with one of the couples.

I suprised Cindy by scoring one of the CCC stone cabins for the third night. The only night spent under a roof on our honeymoon thirtyfour years back was in this unit (the rest were in my VW camper).

We then moved to the Basin for our last four nights. There were two 17' Casitas here also but both left before we had a chance to say howdy. Another 17'er came in on the second day along with a 13' Scamp. Both couples were extremely nice.

They recently changed the layout and site numbering when the campground roads were repaved. Site 47 (old# was 42) is still the best for an egg of any size.

We had late afternoon thunderstorms three days in a row and the rain triggered a profusion of bloom in the cactii.

Prickly Pear

and Ocotillo

Sunset and an approaching thunderstorm.

Lots of wildlife as well
Turkey buzzard that roosted nightly near our campsite

This little fellow wasn't afraid of us in the least.

We found these javelina while hiking to Mule Ears Spring.

We're already looking forward to returning.

Al,

Nothing like a little rain to bring out the beauty of Big Bend. Thanks for sharing your pictures.

That would be pretty close to the time we were there. We were there from the 25th of February to 9th of March.
