CA Central Coast Recommendations?

Thanks, Bret! We are regular visitors to Monterey and my sister-in-law graduated from the Navy post-grad school. Never camped, though, since family is 30 min. away in Salinas. Worth a look!

Just got back from our trip yesterday. After a grueling one-day drive from eastern AZ to Pismo Beach, we spent a relaxing morning exploring North Beach State Park. We saw the butterflies and lots of shore birds. The campground was very nice, and we'll definitely be coming back here!

Next day a drive up the Pacific Coast Highway, stopping to view the elephant seals near San Simeon.

We spent two nights at Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park. A day hike to Pfeiffer Falls took us through the redwood groves. We met a small herd of mule deer grazing near the trail on the way down. Beautiful.

The campground was nice, but because it lies in a deep gorge, it was chilly and dark, even though the weather was clear and sunny while we were there. Thanks to much-needed rain the previous week, we were able to have a campfire. I think if we come to the Big Sur area again in the off-season, we will stay at Andrew Molera instead.

Relatives in Salinas introduced us to two new places. On Thanksgiving we took a day hike at Pinnacles National Park. They also took us to Phil's in Moss Landing for our seafood fix. Both are worth a visit.

I appreciate the great help I got here planning this trip. Thanks, all!
