Campgrounds near Omaha Ne.
Trying to plan a short getaway to Omaha Ne. area.
Anyone know of a campground near Omaha or south of Omaha?
Hope we can find something where we are not stuck in between big rigs. Been there done that-not fun.
Thanks

Rich,
We like Glenn Cunningham Lake. North side of town, off interstate. we use the 72nd Street exit, I-680. We had electricity, $15 a night. It was quiet with families around. COE park, it may be first come first serve?
Corps Lakes Gateway: Nebraska - Glenn Cunningham Lake
We don't use casinos so have never stayed in the Council Bluffs parking lot campground.

Website says 96th Street, but the campground is on east side of lake and 72nd is best. Also south on 72nd, maybe a mile is a shopping area so you can find groceries (Sorenson Park Plaza).
Oops, not sure about groceries. there is a Target, may be big enough for groceries.
HyVee is on 108 Fort. there is an exit on Fort, go west a couple of blocks, Walgreens and CVS on that corner too.

We attended a f/g rally this spring in Minden, Ne which isn't too far away. Highly recommend Pioneer Village CG, right next to Pioneer Village which has probably one of the most interesting and largest collection of cars, and other western memorabilia I have ever seen. Well worth the trip to see it, you will need at least 3 days to see it all.

I don't live far from Cunningham and know the area quite well. I would definitely recommend it for a nice place to camp. It is just North of I-680 and West of 72nd Street. There are shops for provisions and other stuff just South at Sorensen Parkway and 72nd Street. Golden Corral Buffet and lots of other food. The Target has groceries as well.
Another nice place to camp, a bit West of Omaha is Two Rivers State Recreation area. Lots of space there. Earlier in the year they have a put and take trout lake that is popular.
There was a nice campground on the Missouri River at NP Dodge Park also just North of I-680. Don"t go there, it got wiped off the map in the floods two years ago.
I don't know of anything South of Omaha.

If you're retired military, they have a Fam-Camp on the lake at Offutt AFB, just south of Omaha near Bellevue. We loved Indian Cave state park but that's probably much farther South than you want.
