Camping app

What is the best all round app for resourcing campgrounds. We lean toward non commercial sites...even parking lots. It would be nice to see sites within a radius of current location.

I just got an iphone from an android. I've heard the map has a capability to save maps or something like that. I haven't had a chance to play with it yet?

Apple's app store has several free campground apps which I've found useful. Don't have an Android, so can't tell you on that.

I've been using Campwhere (public campgrounds only) on my IPad but unfortunately it is no longer available. At the recommendation of a member here on the forum I recently purchased Allstays. Allstays has much more information than Campwhere including Walmarts, truck stops, and private campgrounds but unlike Campwhere, you must be online to use the maps. I will find out if thats a problem this season. Raz

I've found the "Allstays" app (iPhone…) as a dependable tool for seeking out campsites… Used it all last summer as I made my way from FL. up to Maine...

I have many camping apps on my iPhone, but find I mostly use Allstay's Camp & RV and Ultimate Campground Project. Both are available for either iOS or Android. While both are "paid" apps, they are worth the $. Both have filters that let you only see the type of campground or service you are seeking.

The Ultimate Campground POI list can be purchased for downloading into your GPS.

I also liked CampWhere, still use it at times, but as Raz points out, it is no longer available, and is getting a bit dated.

I also recommend Allstays if you have a smart phone (android or iPhone). You get what you pay for.

I use the Allstay app. on my android phone and am very happy with with it. I used it extensively last summer when we made a 9,500 mile west to east coast trip and back.

Allstays also has a Military CG app for those that can use them, and a Walmart Overnight Parking Locator app ($2.99) for iPhones. It tells you which ones allow or don't allow RV parking. I'd be surprised if they didn't have an Android version.

Does the AllStays Camp & RV app (IOS version) that is the pricer one include the things in the cheaper apps like the Walmart Overnight Parking? Or do you have to buy several?

From what I can tell by the description in the app store; it appears they are separate, and need to be purchased individually. I don't have the expensive one.

I love RVParky as do a few other comments. Worked for me on Android, was accurate. I could see the spots, make a call to them right from the app and of course it was free.
I will check out the others listed above.. Cant have too much of a good thing.

I've got the $10 android version. It includes public camp grounds, private camp grounds, rest areas, welcome centers, dump stations, truck stops (Loves, Pilot, etc. as well as some independents), Walmart and Sams clubs, low bridges, steep road grades, RV dealers, propane dealers, Dicks Sporting goods, Cracker Barrel, and probably more. I would expect the apple version uses the same data base. Raz

That's good news Raz. I'm going to get it. I'm sure the iPhone version works the same. The short description of the app didn't include that much detail. Good to know. Thx!

I have to confess I really haven't used it. Our only Internet access is through a Verizon MFi with a 5 Gb data cap and maps use a lot of data so I'm waiting for our trip to the local library. Their it's free wifi and it's fiber. Raz
