Camping Buddies
I'm looking for folks in Western Colorado or Eastern Utah to do some camping with this fall. Just me and my dog Maxx in my little UHaul. Any ideas? Send me a PM.

Camping Buddies in Virginia, West VA
I am also looking for camping buddies in Virginia and West Virginia this fall.
Please bring your own camper. People who enjoy Mother Nature a must.
Sorry I can't be your Buddy out west. Good thoughts that can be shared I hope. Seems people are so afraid to even ask for Buddies... Really once you have asked all of your friends and aquaintances and they say no thanks, then this may be a good source.
Thanks, PM me as well. Diane

I hope you can find somebody to camp with.
My experience is that camping buddies are found at the campground. We camp in National Forests and National Parks. I usually meet somebody that's really nice at every campground, sometimes several somebodies. We managed to have some friends go with us to the Redwoods this past July. Their goals and activities didn't quite mesh with ours, as a result it wasn't quite as much fun. After we went different directions we headed for Mount Lassen and met some real nice people. Much more our style.
We found the same thing during our hiking and backpacking years. It was much more satisfying to go by ourselves than with somebody else. The hiking pace was never the same, the sleep patterns were never the same, and food was always an issue.
Part of the camping experience is the freedom to do as you please, sleep as late as you want, stay up or go to bed as you please, eat meals on your own schedule, sit and watch the trees grow or the water roll over the rocks. Go for a hike, or take a nap. All these things without the stress of the expectations of somebody else.
I hope you can find somebody really really compatible.

Hi Patti! Would love to meet up camping. But this fall is probably not gonna happen, as I am taking off for parts unknown for at least Sept and into Oct...... But certainly open to camping next spring! I am in Loveland, but prefer to camp in the mountains so heading your way is not a problem. I would say if I get back from my big adventure we might be able to pull off a camping trip if the weather would hold, but because of what is between us and the chances of me hitting snow and ice pulling the Casita I will have to pass planning a late fall camptogether trip! Good luck and enjoy! IMHO fall is the best camping season there is!

byron----i agree with your sentiments 100%! sometimes, the best way to preserve a friendship is NOT to travel/camp together.
we have first hand experience that backs up that observation.... sadly.
but best of luck finding a camping buddy! i think it's an excellent idea.

Byron, I fully understand what you are saying. And I do have campground friends. However in the fall I like to really explore and go into the wilderness, West VA and perhaps some other places. Campground friends generally do not do this. Also am alone but extremely independant, so asking for buddies in the fall is what I am doing for company. This thread seems like a good place for this. I am glad Patti started it and hope she finds people of like kind to enjoy her trips with. It is extremely difficult to find people who enjoy the experience of the outdoors in a similar way as yourself. So I do not expect that in totallity. But sure would be nice to have new friends to share a meal, conversation, laughs and perhaps a hike with should they choose. (I would bore most people as I like to photograph, "critter watch", type plants etc. and usually do these things alone.)

That sounds like me and my "biking" buddies in the 80's.
They wanted to sleep until noon. We slept on picnic tables.
But I couldn't help myself and was up as soon as the sun
came up no matter how late it was when we stopped.
Too old for that now.

I'm a member of this group in facebook. Its a friendly, positive group of ladies and some menfolk that have fun restoring and decorating their campers. They also have campouts together. I've been to several and have made a bunch of new camping buddy friends! This is a nationwide group of people. I highly recommend.

Patti, did you end up taking a trip? We live in Salt Lake and may head out before the snow flies. Where's your home base? If we go anywhere it will probably be down to the Swell or the Moab area. Once it gets really cold, I'll be itching to head south. If you haven't gone yet and would like some tips on ca sites, let us know -- always happy to share the few gems we've collected.

Good morning,
Yes, I did get out a few times after my August post. Got over to Moab and just got back from Gateway, but those were short car camping trips. I guess if traveling by myself I stay pretty close to home. I'm in Grand Junction.
After living in AZ for for over 30 years sure wish I could do the snowbird thing. I lived in CA for a number of years too and used to go down to the Palm Desert area for some warmth and sunshine. Also at that time it was safe to travel in Mexico and I enjoyed that.
My trailer camping for the season is probably done, but hope to get out tent camping maybe thru November. Yep, depends on when the snow flies.
I would love to meet up with you guys sometime and have that mini rally. Maybe this next year we can get something started for this side of the Rockies-it would be fun to see other eggs and meet some new people.
If you are ever in this neck of the woods just send me a PM and perhaps we can meet up.
Thanks,
Patti

I think one of the best ways to meet fellow campers is to host a rally. Posting the idea and getting feedback will provide the level of interest. Then picking a date and following Rally Rules 101 will provide you with the avenue to meet prospective camping buddies. Similarly by attending some other rally will also provide the means. Good luck.

I think the idea of finding camping buddies here is great. If you meet some place and spend a day together and it turns out to be fun you can continue the trip together or you can go your seperate ways if the situation is not to your liking.
Usually everyone I meet supplys me with happiness. Some by staying and others by leaving. .
Best of luck on your adventure.

We kind of tried to set up a rally in Eastern Utah/Western Colorado for this fall but I'm afraid everyone involved in the conversation got distracted by other things. One thing I had a hard time determining was whether or not hook ups were mandatory. Any thoughts? We tend to boondock, mostly, but we should probably give hook ups a try some time.
The second problem we had was determining a location.... Perhaps a place should just be chosen and participants will come if they want to. Again, thoughts on this?
I've never been to a rally so I don't know what people expect; if I had more experience, I'd probably be more willing to take a risk and plunge into the deep end, but I'm little insecure right now. Anyways, I'll keep the rally idea alive and we should definitely try to put something together for 2014. I'm with Jack -- I just want to meet some FG friends!

Having organized rallys for awhile now that would be my approach - if you try and engage everyone into coming to an agreement as to where & when & what facilities are necessary it will never happen.
I have a crew of people that some may say are a little spoiled in regards to rally locations - some of them would be unhappy if the shower facilities where old or the pool wasnt warm enough ;-) yet some of the biggest rallys held in the Fiberglass world are held at locations with no facilities - no bathrooms, power or water!
Pick a date and a location - Post it here - Put it up on the map and they will come!

hi....i was just thinking i should clarify my (earlier) reply----
about 7 years ago, we travelled (by air) to the carribean. the other two couples travelling with us got into a huge disagreement and we were stuck in the middle.
in actuality, we enjoyed both couples' company equally so that made it really uncomfortable.
we made the decision not to travel with more than one couple at a time in future.
our best friends are also fiberglass owners. we travel FANTASTICALLY with them.
they are on the "same page".
the moral of the story----keep with "like-minded" folk.

Patti, I joined Camping Singles of Coloradoa couple of years ago. This year, between May and October, I camped 69 days in both Utah and Colorado. Email me if you have any questions.

Shirley, I will send you a PM.
Steve & Rosemary, maybe we can put our heads together and come up with some ideas of locations to "put out there" for this forum.
I appreciate everyone's input and ideas.

Yes, let's! I think there are ample options for a fun get together. PM me if you want or if you'd rather get feedback from others (something I encourage ) just throw some ideas out here. I'll go back and see what we had thought of last spring.
