Either Ocean Waves which on ocean front in Rodanthe. Camp sites are a little close together but walk over dunes to beach. Or Frisco woods which is on the sound side. It has a pool and closer to restaurant's and the light house. Both have 30 amp.

Thank you for these infos. Have checked their web site. Both seem great. Do you have any preference?

Frisco Woods if you need electric. That area of the Outer Banks is a little more laid back than the northern sections. Sites are available with shade (a rarity on OBX campgrounds) or you can pick one right on the water with awesome sunset views.

Several good restaurants in the Buxton area - Diamond Shoals, Captain's Table, for breakfast pastries and sandwiches Orange Blossom Cafe. Take the free ferry over to Ocracoke. Plan to spend a day in the Nags Head / Manteo area - Wright Brothers Memorial, Jockey's Ridge SP, Lost Colony Outdoor Drama, Fort Raleigh National Historic Site, Elizabethan Gardens, NC Aquarium, Festival Park and QE II sailing ship are all on the northern end.

Hope you enjoy your stay with us.

Thank you very much. We are glad to know that are good places to eat. We love seafood. Frisco Woods will be probably our choice.

outer banks

for a truly outer banks experience the NPS campground on Ocracoke is very nice.
Lots of restaurants in the town a bike ride away and a remote feel to the beach area.

I've heard the bugs at Ocracoke at particularly bad. Do be prepared for the wind, stayed at Frisco where it flattened the screen house.

Wind is an issue anywhere on the outer banks during a thunderstorm.
And bugs can be a problem anywhere in a natural environment. Especially along the outer banks. Mosquitos come out at dusk but not always. Green head flies if the wind dies. An occasional black widow under a picnic table. Biting gnats that go right thru screens. Sharks. Undertow. Big waves.
On second thought stay away from Ocracoke its safer at home in the driveway.

You forgot hurricanes..

but to be serious, it can be hard to evacuate in parts of the Outer Banks, so plan accordingly and watch the weather.. tis that time of year.

Gordon, we have been evacuated from the NPS campground on Ocracoke three times in the last 25 years of camping there. NPS is pretty diligent about getting folks off the outer banks a few days ahead of time.
Last year we chose to stay on Ocracoke during a hurricane in July. Batten down the camper in town and got a room.
It was most interesting to say the least. NPS was closed for three days afterwards. And.. the weather was fantastic after it blew through.
