Camping in kansas city

Hi,
Noticed there are several campgrounds in K.C. area. We have no kids, and like more peaceful surroundings, with some place to take a little walk.
Like to be somewhat near the Kemper Arena area.
Anyone have any suggestions, or recommendations on any of the camping facilities there?
Would appreciate any input.
Thanks in advance,
Betty L.

Rv park

Close to us in Merriam Ks is a park called Walnut Grove RV park.
It is close to I-35 hiway (approx. 1 1/2 miles) which is the hiway you would take to get to Kemper.
It is a Good Sam approved campground.
Walnut Grove RV Park
Not sure I would want to stay at any campgrounds close to Kemper-couldn't find any.
Hope this helps.

Kemper Arena is located in the old stockyards area of Kansas City, Missouri. There are no campgrounds in that area. It used to be a rough part of town. Merriam, Kansas is in Johnson county and is a fairly safe area. I have never stayed @ Walnut Grove RV Park to be able to give you a good recommendation. Enjoy your visit to KC.

Walnut Grove is a good part of town with a middle school next to it and a nursing home across the street. It is in a residential area of Merriam.
We have two daughters that live in the area and we live 3 miles from there.
We shop and eat at restaurants in the area.
Kemper is about 12 miles from Walnut Grove.
If you have time-visit Crown Center-shopping, dining and it also has an aquarium.
A covered walkway goes from there to Union Station which is a beautiful historic building.
Liberty Memorial is across the street.
There is also the Kansas City Zoo which now has polar bears and penguins.
There is a sky tran to take you over to the other side of the zoo-you look down on the zebra, rhino, kangaroo and giraffe.
Hope you have time to explore the area.

Are you looking to "stay" in KC or are you just passing through? If you're just on the way from point A to B and KC (see what I did there?) is in between I'd highly recommend pulling into a rest stop on the Missouri Interstate system. We were going from the Twin Cities (A) to Mt. Ida, Arkansas ( B on I-29. It was late and we were tired so we pulled into the Rockport (Rockport Welcome Center & Rest Area) rest stop. Nestling ourselves between a couple of big rigs we slept like logs, and felt REALLY safe. The "facilities" building was beautiful with gorgeous tile work and friendly people. Mind you, no electricity, water, or the like, but if you don't need 'em, it's a great spot. The price, of course, is perfect: zero.

Hi Gary,
Thanks for the tip! I will remember that for future reference!
Actually this trip we will be staying for a few days. And after a previous tip, we may actually decide to extend our stay!
Much appreciated!

Thanks! BTW... I see you're from Arkansas! Have you ever collected quartz at Mt. Ida? We had a blast doing it. Funky "campsite" at the mine. AC power plus water (which was not working...well issues). Lousy road, but the Rav4 and the Scamp had no problems going up the slope. Up at the crack of dawn and we found piles of good stuff.

Hey Gary,
I have been to Mt. Ida, but not to hunt quartz. I have a rock hound friend who has been more than once, and wants me to go. She was even written up in the local paper for her rock collection.
Who knows what adventure the future holds?!
