Or our Scamp last summer and camped a bunch but this is our first > 100 mile trip. Having dinner at a Subway in Frackville, PA. Towering the 16' with a Kia Sedona and mpg seems low at 13 according to trip computer. I'll attach a scene from the backseat.

Out of curiosity what mileage do you get not towing? We find we get 5-7 mpg less than normal Highway driving though we don't have a V6.

When my parents lived in florida and after the initial free airline flight under age 2 debacle with our daughter we then decided to start driving to Florida and continued that tradition for the next 22 years.
We would depart after our daughter went to sleep around 7 pm and drive all night so that when she awoke in morning we were not exposed to " r v there yet?" every 15 minutes. She learned to tell time via tv episodes and could relate to how long "three more Gilligan's Island" meant to her before we arrived at Gmom's house.
Sigh, how I miss those days!!

We have stopped in Frackville PA several times for gas. As I recall there's a good restaurant just off the exit on the right, we've ate there but I can't remember the name of it. Now what route are you taking here, as this is not the most direct way from CT to Florida. From Albany NY area, we go I87, to I84 west, then on to I81 down to I77 through Charlotte NC to Columbia SC and take I26 out to I95. We go to Jekyll Island GA. Will be making that trip end of this month. At Rock Hill SC, exit 79 I have to stop at Jack-in-the-Box to get a shake. Mary gets a coffee at Dunkin Donuts which is next to it. Your photo looks like when we travel with our daughter and her kids, Mary sits in the back, kids are watching DVD's or playing some game thing. Have a good trip. Bob

That's about what we are doing. Just avoiding dc, et al. and trying a new route. Sleeping at a Walmart in Harrisonburg,va to ight.

About 19/23 when not towing. 3.8L is not struggling at all though I do feel the resistance on declines. Tires are new. 50 - 60 mph.

I feel that strapping kids in for hours and hours borders cruel and unusual so we let them watch a couple of movies a day, try to drive while they are sleeping and stop at a couple playgrounds a day. Works for us.

When towing we increase the tire pressure on the tow vehicles tires. This improves mileage as well and stiffens the tires. We go from a normal 26 on the rears to 39 lbs and from 26 to 34 pounds on the fronts.

We also avoid the Baltimore/Washington thing by taking the Chesapeake Bay Bridge and following 17 south all the way to GA, a more interesting road with less traffic.

On our last trip to GA this past December we took the Chesapeake Bay Bridge/Tunnel both ways. The southern end is a busy area, lots of traffic. Even with EZ-Pass they want you to go through a booth with a toll taker so they can ask if your propane tank is turned off, and we had to stop at a inspection pull off to get it checked again before some other tunnel heading to Newport News. We also did a lot of time on Route 17, saw cotton fields, old tractors in falling down barns, and just off 17 in Hollywood SC we just missed the bank being robbed, cop cars all over the place!! We only go thru the bay bridge tunnels and nothing at Newport News when we head south. Usually there's no one at the bridge toll booth so we find it quick.

I guess I'm a country boy at heart and also like the lack of traffic except for the small part near VA Beach.

We only went off route to Newport News to stay overnight at a city campground there. Got lost heading out the next morning, mainly because I didn't listen to the GPS!! Finally found our way to route 17. Got stuck right at the bottom of one of the bay bridge tunnels while the tow truck was removing a broke down car. I'm surprised they even let us into the tunnel before it was cleared.

We stay in a nice rural Passport Park after getting off the Bridge. I'll have to get the info from my navigator.

We use no GPS, only Ginny. She won't allow it. With a GPS she'd fear she's one step from replacement..... thinking next I'd want a dog...

Norm: I'd appreciate the park info, I was not happy with the one we stayed at. We both like the GPS, it can be a big help but sometimes annoying too, so I'll keep both of mine, the electronic one and the one sitting in the passenger seat. Bob

We are camping at Fort McCallister, GA. Nice campground about ten miles from I95. Seems to be an Airsteam rally going on.

it is located right of I95 in the rear of a Comfort Inn, maybe 24 sites with water and electric, good place to stop to sleep. Only $13 for Passport members and free breakfast in the motel lobby next morning, eggs, waffles, cereal,grits, coffee,juice. What a deal!!
