Trailer: 17 ft Casita
Posts: 14
I'm leaving tomorrow from the Laughlin, NV. area by truck and will drive to Denver to pick up a used CASITA that I just bought. I can come home via I-70 then I-15 by way of St. George, UT. or I can head South down I-24 to I-40 via Gallop, NM. Anyone been both ways with a oppinion on which way would be best for someone who just wants to get out before it snows, this is not a site seeing trip but any recomendations on quick and inexpensive overnights would be appreciated. I am leaving tomorrow so only answers today Tuesday the 23rd will help me... THANKS

I live in Central Ca. I bought a Scamp in Demver last month.
On the way back on I-70 I headed south at Grand Junction towards Durango. I can't remember the Highway # at Grand Junction but It was 550 or connected to 550. Just head south to Durango.
You will end up in the most spectacular part of the Colorado Rocky Mountians that you will ever see. You will go along a portion of the San Juan Sky Way and up the Million Dollar Highway that reaches elevations of almost 11000 feet. It is an excellant 2 lane road but no road for the timid as there are steep drop offs and no guard rails. The beauty will take you breath away.
From Durango I took 160 down to I-40 and headed back home. There is a lot of desert before and after the Mountians but you will not regret the trip.

I did not read the above responce until after I returned home. It sounds like a great trip for the future, but this was just a quick delivery trip of a Casita that I bought in Denver. I drove there in my truck via the Utah route. and after seeing the number of 6 percent grades that I would have to return on, with a truck and trailer combination that I wasen't experienced with, I chose to return via the longer I-24 to I-40 ROUTE. It all went well and made it a day faster than planed.
To answer my own question, If you want the pretty route go over the mountains thru Utah. If in a hurry do as I did. HOPEFULLY that was my last HURRY HURRY trip.

Oh-ho Bob! Congratulations on finding a 'just right for you' Egg, and safely returning to the nest! We wish you safe journeys and many happy memories. Maybe our travel paths will cross in the future. Take care, L 'n D
