Drive till it's warm

Bev retired on a Friday, we left on the following Sunday. Our plan is simple; drive south on I35 from Minnesota until it gets warm, then make a right turn and drive to the ocean. We are 4 weeks in and are having a great time in our Scamp 16.Click image for larger version

Looks great Jerry. We're heading to the ocean as well but east. Our routes cross in KC, we are leaving Sunday, heading to GE&H in AL, then our daughter's in GA with four days planned at Destin FL

Jerry,

Fantastic! Since you are in SoCal and heading east, you may want to consider stopping at Organ Pipe NP and swing down to Big Bend NP. Both are very memorable and you can take them off your bucket list.

If you do, and you can get any pics of Peccaries please post here. We went to both parks last season and nary saw a single one, although many other people did.

That's the way to retire. Congratulations! Go as much as you can because tomorrow is never promised. Make memories and take pictures so when you can't go anymore you can travel again with them. We've had many older than us people tell us that. We moved upon retiring to a much better town and the following summer spent 80 days going to Alaska and back. We are having a lot of fun also. Don't go much in the winter because of the cold but go all spring, summer and fall traveling on long trips and camping.

Great story and congratulations and best wishes!

Garrison Keillor, your fellow Minnesotan, used to say that his theory was to get in the car and drive south until somebody at a gas station asked him what the heck that extension cord was doing sticking out of his grill. Then he knew he was getting somewhere.

I'm a little more hard-core. I drive south until I see the first palm tree. That's when I know I'm gettin' there.

That's all I need to know about Vancouver; Always wanted to go there, and now I'm headed your way!

I should say, though, that I have a regular correspondent on another forum who lives over there in Hope, BC, who reports that they have lots of that other climatic condition (The one with the white precipitation and the shiny stuff on the roads) that I try really hard, and usually successfully, to avoid.

Cheers,

Johnny

Google 'English Bay palms' for pictures of snow-laden palm trees ( from a couple weeks ago ).

I must have had a lucky trip - saw them every day at the Cottonwood campground at Big Bend.

This time of the year you don't need to go that far South to find warm weather . Next week it is supposed to be in the 70's in
Southern Illinois and Iowa. We have camped in the Spring at Dixon Spring SP in Illinois and the weather was perfect .

I am rather depressed , we are predicted to have temps in the low 50's this week . Much too warm , much too early .
We only got about 50+ inches of snow this winter , far less then necessary to replenish the ground moisture or fill the lakes.
I miss the Winters of my childhood but those days are gone and probably won't return in my lifetime.
All too soon we will be experiencing the dog days of summer.
