Easton/Cle Elum Washington Info Needed

I'll be heading up to Easton, WA at the end of the month. I'll be crewing for my daughter when she runs the Cascade Crest 100. No reservable campsites are available in the area for that weekend. Never having been there before, and with little time to scout the local forest, I'm hoping someone reading this with knowledge of the area will be able to steer me to a safe and legal dispersed camp spot. I just need a location to leave my Scamp 13, the closer to Easton the better, while I drive my truck to the many access points along the trail. I'll be sleeping in the Scamp on Friday night, but I'm sure I'll be traveling on various forest service roads most of Saturday, Saturday night and Sunday morning (It's gonna be different!). So, does anyone know of a spot to park for a couple nights in that location?

Thanks

Gordon

The Lake Easton State Park and the nearby resort look like the only ones in that area that take reservations but it sounds like they may be full. Try Lake Kachess Forest Service campground. We have been up there to visit my daughter and grand girls while they were camped there.

I don't remember much about the sites but I think it would meet your needs if you get there before it also fills up. The race coordinators may have additional information.

We have stayed at the KOA in Ellensburg. A little further away but may work as a backup plan.

Don't forget to stop at Twin Pines drive thru on the east side of Cle Elum for a fabulous milkshake!

Contact the Cle Elum Forest Service District Office. Address: 803 W 2nd St, Cle Elum, WA 98922 Phone: (509) 852-1100 for locations/map of wayside campgrounds. There are many, all on a first-come basis.
Good luck to your daughter.

Thanks for the help!
I found out this morning that Katchess Lake Campground has a LOT of 1st come - 1st served campsites. My daughter will be there early and should be able to secure a site. There are 2 dispersed locations near Easton that will serve as a backup plan. I feel better now.
I found Twin Pines on Google Earth and I hope I get a chance to get a milk shake there. There's also a bakery in Cle Elum. Sounds like my kind of town.
If anyone could give me a phonetic spelling of Cle Elum, I'd appreciate it.

Again, Thanks

Gordon

I stopped at that bakery in 1972. My mouth still waters at the memory. Absolutely the best. Is it still great?

And thanks, Marilyn, for the advice. Hopefully, the Lake Katchess campground will work out, because it's in a great location for the race. I won't be with the Scamp very much, so leaving it at a centrally located campground will give me some peace of mind and some access to it. If that doesn't work out, I'll go the FS office and see if they can help.

Thanks again,

Gordon
