FLA Panhandle Camping

Hey All, usually I peruse the builds & mods forum, but now have a different dilemma. One of our all time favorite places is St. Andrews just outside of Panama Beach Fla. Found out yesterday that they will be closed starting Jan 2020 for major maintenance due to the recent hurricane. We seriously need a Gulf Coast alternative. Any suggestions? thanks in advance. Dennis.

Check out Henderson Beach in Destin. plenty to do like St Andrews and not too far away.
Also Pensacola has a really cool campground Big Lagoon, still easy access to activities.

St George Island is nice , but area activities are limited and you want to bring your own supplies.... Beach on both sides , but you would need at least a bicycle to reach them from the campgrounds.

Of course a little further west of Pensacola is fabulous Gulf Shores in ALabama

Manatee Springs State Park in Chiefland is not really panhandle, but it is not too far south of it and is worth a look...

We spend a week each April at Gulf State Park in gulf shores. It's nice to be able to bike to the beach. And you get free parking at the pavilion. And best part is, it's practically a ghost town that time of year.

About 50 miles NW.

I was just camped at Fred Gannon Rocky Bayou State Park. Also toured nearby Eden state park and noticed RVs to the south of it but could not find any listing for a campground there. Both were great places. It was hard to find an opening even months ahead.

Go west, toward Pensacola. I recommend Ft Pickens, which is part of the Gulf Islands National Seashore (good to have an America the Beautiful or Senior pass) and on the west side of Pensacola is Big Lagoon State Park, which is very close to Pediro Key and the Johnson Beach (also part of the Gulf Islands National Seashore, and again, a good reason for the Federal passes.

The Naval Aviation Museum is less than ten minutes from your campsite at Big Lagoon (about 35-40 minutes thru town from Ft Pickens.)

Going even further west is Dauphin Island south of Mobile. It is on the west side of the mouth of Mobile Bay and has a decent city operated campground with nice, relatively new showers and restrooms, plus a cheap ($5 on foot or bicycle) ferry ride across the bay to Ft Morgan, plus the Estaturaium and also Ft Gains, both just a block or so from the campground, which is adjoined by the beach and a 100 acre Audubon Bird Sanctuary with lots of walking trails.
