Free camping :
Very good ! We find that some roadside rests are good , especially in Oregon and Washington, sometimes Calif. Casinos are OK, prob safer that roadside rests. We use Walmarts occasionally , even when they say : ' NOP ! ", No Overnight Parking Sometimes if you go inside to the service desk and ask, they will say it is a city or county ordinance and they will not call police. They may also say they have seen no police warning the RVs parked on the lot. Or they may say it is the opposite, whether our ' rule or county law, NO Overnight parking ! ' Heed the warning. And be careful at Walmarts or Roadside Rests . Watch for shady characters or loitering strangers. And if you haven't been to the desert, try it soon. There are WalMarts, Roadside Rests, BLM lands, and cheap old trailer parks as well as beautiful RV Resorts. Try them all; report to us when you have finished ! David and Julie in Fresno and Sonora.

Ford Explorer... plenty of "rating" for the job and even more "capacity".

Watched two sets of campers totally abusing Walmart yesterday. First, they didn’t set up in the area Walmart wanted them to. Secondly, they pulled out their slide outs, had the lawn chairs out and were cooking in Walmart’s lawn area. They had been there for several days. Finally, watched their dog dump on Walmart’s lawn with no attempt to clean up. (I was at Walmart getting an oil change).
Folks, overnighting at Walmart is a privilege not a right. Some cities and states forbit it. It is also my understanding each store manager has the right to approve or deny it. People who abuse the privilege risk it for the rest of us.
If you want to camp, find a campground. In this case there was a nice one less than a mile away, city run, with low rates.
I consider Walmart a great place for an overnight stop but not a campground. It can be a nice quick stop on the way home when I am trying to make time. Given s choice, I prefer Cracker Barrel as I can get dinner and breakfast. But there aren’t Cracker Barrel’s everywhere. And when I want to set up camp(90%+ of the time), I’ll continue to use private and public campgrounds.

I agree..... Walmart is an overnight stop, not a campground. But I still prefer to free cMp whenever possible. Thanks for the input!
