Smile Help plan trip n. Of kansas city

Hi,
We will soon be in Kansas City for a few days. Then we will have about a week or so,-- to go North?? Any beautiful parks, scenery, special places--say Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin??
Open to suggestions about our route, and camping spots.
Anyone like to help out?
Mention favorite places, or spots?
Thanks,
Betty L.

Check out Watkins Mill, Lawson Mo.
Tours daily of the mill and home.
Camping, lake, bike paths are part of the beautiful historic area.

I can second that Watkins Mill is a good place. Grew up close to there.

No problem. If you do decide to stay there and need some adult beverages, the closest town is Excelsior Springs and my parents have owned a liquor store there for 42 years called Y Liquor. You'll also be super close to the Jesse James Farm, which is neat to see.

The Steamboat Arabia is Very interesting and educational Museum. Itís worth seeing place in Kansas City. You can see all the artifacts. It's a slice of life from the 1850s, a display of much of the cargo of a sunken steamship that had lain hidden under mud when the river changed course. How the family found, excavated, and preserved the vessel was quite a story, and they haven't looked through all the boat's cargo yet. It's a great way to learn what life was like to pioneer in the west -- the boat carried the stuff that everyone needed, hats, shoes, fabric, buttons, tools, hardware; no list could possibly do it justice.

I agree-Steamboat Arabia is well worth the price.
The buttons were my favorite-so many different buttons.
The childrens shoes were also interesting.
You also see how they de-pressurized the items. Think that is what they call it.
This is a great museum for the family.

The Trip

Hey thanks for the replies! Will keep in mind for the future.
We did make our trip to KC and beyond. Way beyond. Thought this would be a shorter trip than most. But ended up traveling 1700 miles!!
We rambled with no real plan, just looking for State Parks to camp in and covered bridges. Zig sagging back and forth. Finally went up into South east corner of Iowa. Through Amish farms, with buggies and horses.
Came back down and went through Herman, Mo. Quaint town, with German influence, and big wine tasting country. Lovely old houses and buildings. Also a little town called Caldonia, I believe.
Went also to Elephant Rocks State Park, in MO. Loved that! Huge granite boulders from an old quarry. Nice paved trails throughout. You could climb on them. But do not go on a holiday, or weekend, if you do not like crowds!
It was a great trip!
Thanks,
Betty L

Ps

PS.
Ricky,
We did in fact check out Watkins Mill. Great place. It was cloudy and mizzling rain, but a beautiful spot. We went on anyway. Thanks
Betty
