Icelandic, ND State Park

We're heading up to Icelandic State park this afternoon for our first "real" camping trip with our 13' U-haul! We had it out once over the 4th of July but, that was at the family farm and camping there is a comfy even by high end car camping standards.

Anyone been to Icelandic State Park in ND? I've never been up that way in ND before and we love finding those interesting lost relics of the priarie's past.

The wife, "goalie" on the forums, or I will post some pics when we get back! Have a great weekend everyone!

Hi Derik,

we haven't been to Icelandic State Park.

Hope you have your passport so we can meet you up at the St. Malo, Manitoba meet August 16. Just over the border a bit, between Winnipeg and MN.

Lots of great people and fun music in the evenings. Bring musical instruments if you play.

I don't think there are any electric sites available. Come rough it with us. The non electrical are closer to the gathering place anyway.

Spent a night there about a month ago. Very nice, tried site #10 first but found it damp and buggy so changed to 26. Much better.

The woman in the office confirmed that no one speaks or understands Icelandic among the staff. Deceptive advertising??

We never made it to Icelandic SP, but did do a few times at Lake Metigoshe State Park which is on the border with Canada about 10 miles north of Bottineau, ND. A very nice campgound in the woods (hard to find in ND at times) and up in some hills called the Turtle Mts. All very pretty, nice lake with bike/hiking trail, boating, fishing.

It was not far from the International Peace Garden on the U.S. and Canadian border. International Peace Garden United States and Canada
Lake Metigoshe

We did an overnight at Turtle River State Park, located 22 miles west of Grand Forks on Highway 2. Clicky

Just off US 83, The North Dakota Lewis & Clark Interpretive Center between Bismarck & Minot at Washburn. Not sure about overnighting, but neat to visit, nice place to take a break. Pretty vista.

Not far from Washburn, the Knife River Indian Villages Nat'l Historic Site was very interesting.

We found the Scandinavian Heritage Center and Park in Minot was neat to see.

Also between Minot & Bismarck, Lake Sakakawea State Park with links to other sites. Also in the area, Cross Ranch State Park. We have not been to them, but my son has.
