So after much scrubbing, tweaking, cleaning and general de-lousing, Lucille finally took her maiden voyage last week. Just a 4 night trip to a state park on the far side of Denver, about 50 miles from where we live but we figured it might be an idea to be fairly close to the stores for our first attempt.
It's the first time I've hauled a trailer of any kind and my goodness, she's a bouncy baby. But other than the (what I thought were carefully secured) contents all changing place on the way down, everything went without a hitch. (See what I did there? "hitch". For a trailer. Oh, never mind.)
I learned a valuable lesson in that one should insert the wheel chocks before removing the hitch. I ended up holding the tongue with both hands while K looked for something to block under the wheel, all while Lucille did her best to roll back slowly onto the grass.
And we had a bit of a challenge with the door lock, which decided to jam. Twice. No panic though, I'm sure it would be no problem to arrange for a locksmith to come to a state park to let us in. Right? Fortunately, that problem resolved itself.
Oh, and the
lights which went out mid-way through the first evening, resulting in a trip to Target to buy an electric lamp. A dodgy wire, apparently.
Other than that, more paper towels would have been good. And the salt and pepper, and perhaps some cooking oil. More beer would always have come in handy and we learned that if we're going to have an argument, it's best to make up before we get into that tiny bed. Although that's pretty good advice for living anyway.
We met some great folks, including a couple of fellow forum-ites, had a lot of fun, some terrific weather and we can't wait to do it all again.
Maybe we'll have seat cushions by then.
