Machias (Northern Maine) Wild Blueberry Festival

Third year in a row attending. The music is great, a half hour of the town band followed by the 2 hour blueberry themed musical. The 5 nights sell out early so get your tickets in early July.

There were all kinds of events to keep you busy. The most interesting was Saturday night's Blackfly Ball, a casual, all ages, no or little alcohol event. It takes place in the center of town where two rivers come together creating a waterfall. There are 3 separated stages each having 4 groups playing for an hour each. The event was free, sponsored by what appears to be an anticapitalist, antiglobalist group, surmised from studying their excellent artwork. Regardless of the events source it was unique and fun.

This year we again stayed at Sunset Point campground in Harrington,. Maine. A Casita and an Escape were there as well. Shockingly they knew us without introduction from our posts. One special feature of this campground is cooked lobster delivered to your site. The four of us each had a 2 lb lobster... A reasonable $7 a lb.

Machias, a town of 2000, is really far away from most of our everyday worlds and we'll worth settling into for a day. The seafood is great and fresh in coastal Maine.

We did also manage to cross the border to Campobello from Quoddy Pt. /Lubec, ME. To visit FDR's summer home.

I've posted this every year, at least I think so. It happens, around August 15th, now in it's 37th year.

Look forward to seeing you there.
