Made it to Blythe Island Ga.

After many days of towing south from Michigan, we made it to Blythe Island State Park in Ga.

While we had a few quick overnights en route including one Walmart in Ohio and we did an impromptu KOA stop for 2 nights in N.C. as it was fairly cold +/- 30 F and very windy > 40 MPH.

We were heading to a campground further south, but the Google map directions indicated north of Charlotte there was a major traffic delay on the Interstate that was going to be a1.5 hour delay. So when our alternative navigator the "Blind Pig" (that may occasionally find a chestnut from time to time) helped our navigation with a faded KOA sign at the next exit, off we went.

We stopped for a short 5-night stay at Myrtle Beach State Park, S.C. even though our destination was 9 nights at Huntington Beach State Park in S.C. They are only 18 miles apart and Huntington had no slots open for 5 nights.

Both were super. The sculpture garden and botanical garden across from Huntington State Park is not to be missed. We attended the Xmas event The night of 1,000 candles, with two friends we met when we lived in Belize. They came down to Bze annually to the nearby tourist lodge and over the years we became good friends.

The main Xmas tree at the garden was lit after a 10-second count down and had 130,000 LED lights!

Here at Blythe Island today temps were in the 80s Yipppeee. We are only here for 9 nights then relocate to Jekyll Island 12 miles away until early Feb. No space at Jekyll until Dec 12th so this is a nice roost.

Not clear where we may head after Feb 4th when we are booted from Jekyll Island.

We were surprised on our first walk around the small lake at the Blythe Island campground yesterday. We had many mosquito bites!

Wonderful!

Not only does this keep our tropical immunity up, but beats the daylights out of Frost Bite in Michigan.

This afternoon we did a drive around Jekyll after an hour walk on the beach so today was great. Not as much damage from the hurricane as expected.

Since hitting Myrtle Beach, Huntington and now here we have both averaged 15,000 steps a day on our Fitbits. Our first day at Myrtle was close to 20K steps.

Oh! the most important part is that Esme was welcomed on ALL the beaches. These are the most dog-friendly places we have seen. Also why we chose Jekyll again this year.

OK time to shut down and read...

Cheers all,

Bat Dude

Welcome to Georgia! As a native son and fan of state parks, you threw me a curve referring to Blythe Island as a state park, since I know our state parks well--it's actually not a state park, but a regional park which I'd never heard of. Sounds like a nice stay when there's no room at Jekyl, so thanks for the lead. Enjoy!

We did 2 nights at Blythe Regional, then 2 down the road at Coastal Georgia resort at the end of November. Went out to Jekyll a couple days to visit friends in the campground and check on hurricane damage. Will see you there Feb. 1 Bruce. At the COE campgrounds in Florida until then. Blythe was so dry it was like the Oklahoma dust bowl, but a nice park otherwise.

Next time we take a trip to FL, we may have to take a little detour to the GA islands. They all sound wonderful!

Blythe Island is a nice County park with bicycling and kayaking.
Jekyll island is a neat place with the opportunity to see how the original snowbirds , like J. P. Morgan, Pulitzer and Vanderbilt, spent their winters.

Does this campground offer a bath house? Our Lil Snoozy has a tiny bathroom very adequate for the 3 AM trips, but a full bath house is desirable for other issues.

Yep. They have two restroom/shower facilities in the campground and another at the beach. Plus another two RRs at the bike path and the fishing ramp/pier.
