Mammoth Cave campground

Taking grandkids to Mammoth cave during spring break. Anyone fmiliar with the campgrounds there or recommend others nearby?

We were at Brantley Lake State Park just north of Carlsbad the end of last month.

You are talking about Mammoth Cave Ky correct? Stayed at Jellystone not bad site a tad unlevel but great for kids Also if they are young like my daughter they will enjoy the Dino world

Be sure to get Junior Ranger workbooks for your sons to work on at Mammoth Cave. They can each earn a badge. It really helps them learn more about the park too and they have something to bring home.

We went a few years ago. My daughter was 5 and my son was 8 then and they both did the tours fine. I don't remember the names of the two we did but choose yours based more on the length of time and of course degree of difficulty. The rangers can recommend the best ones for you.
They also have a river boat tour.

Be sure to take jackets, it is cold in the caves! Even if it is 100 degrees outside!

We stayed at the Jellystone at Cave City. It had a great water slide built into the side of a hill, my kids thoroughly enjoyed that. They had a wagon ride in the evening and crafts & games for the kids.

We went to Dino World, which is a walk through park of lifesize dinsoaurs. Tickets are a little high by my son loves dinosaurs so it was worth it to us. We also went to a wildlife museum in Cave City. The building was designed to be like walking through a cave. The exhibits were all behind glass. Thought I'd mention these since you have boys.

We have stayed at Mamouth Cave Campground several times.

First and foremost, remember this is a National Park which means that you have cold water and no showers in the immediate campgrounds. They do have showers in the "main area". But, they do have flush toilets - my main concern.

I don't remember about electric on the sites because we always take non-electric sites. And, since it is a National Park, you can make reservations and I would suggest that you do that.

You also need to make reservations for most of the cave tours so do that early in the morning.

I was reviewing some of the park rules. They don't want people to go swimming in the rivers in the park, but they can't legally bar you from doing so, and end by suggesting some safety rules.

When many of the Eastern parks were established, the government had to make broad and very liberal allowances for access and use. Thus, there's no admission fees in the Great Smoky Mountains (yay!), and horses are allowed on most of the trails there (boo!). So I assume that even though the Park Service doesn't want the public to swim in Mammoth Cave National Park, they can't actually stop you from doing so.
