Baker Park Reserve Campground http://www.threeriversparkdistrict.org/res...esprocedure.cfm
This is the best camp ground close to the twin cities. I have been camping here for 50 years. It has 1 mile of shore line 210 sites, including 98 with electricity. Showers and flush toilets (wheel chair accessible). RV dump station. Daily fee (+ tax): $17/site; $22/site with 30amp electrical service; $25/site with 50/30amp electrical service. 20 miles west of Minneapolis on County Road 19, between Highway 12 and Highway 55. 763/694-7662.

I'll have to agree that Baker Park is one of the best close-to-the twin-cities campground. It has been several years since we've stayed there, but I'm sure that someday I'll visit there again.

I absolutely love Baker Park. There is so much room in between sites. Most sites are level and have plenty of space for Scamps. I stayed here in June of '08 to attend a wedding reception, which was held in the reservable picnic area. My friends planned to go home to shower, however, when they stuck their heads in the shower area they couldn't believe how nice and clean they're kept up. Go in fall when the leaves turn. Fishing and lake swimming are good too. Due to gas prices they are full every weekend for electric hookup. For me, this campground would be a 10 if water hookup was offered. I'm on the border of Mpls/Golden Valley, off Hwy 55 and it takes me about 20 minutes to get to this campground.

It might be fun to get together there some weekend. Close to home.

YEP, but when? I am busy all of this month, and part of September.

There is a fiberglass get together in Lanesboro in September. I have not decided whether to go to that one or not, but would want to pick a different weekend for the one in the cities.

I was actually driving through Osceola, WI this past weekend and there seems to be a great camping site right on the St. Croix river, I looked online - but couldn't find the name of the site? Does anyone know anything about this one? Was thinking about arranging something up here around October for the fall colors.

We went looking at campgrounds close to the twin cities a couple of weeks ago. We included Baker based on this post. Looks like a great place to camp and is on our list for next year. Getting there from the east (Wisconsin) though is a little scarry. We went through town on I-94, we didn't have a trailer and it was Saturday morning, but I think a Friday afternoon with a camper will be a bad idea. We came back on I-494, but I am not sure that will be such a good idea either. Any route recommendations would be great.

All freeway roads on Friday from 3 to 7 pm will be jammed in the twin cities.
