Years ago, about 27 to be exact, I visited this park and enjoyed it. So when we were down south I wanted to see what it was like. It is 110 miles from San Diego and we were warned about the roads. The wind was the most scarey but it didn't seem to bother our trailer much even at 45 mph and we saw plenty of other rvs on the road. Once we turned off of Hwy 8 the road was still paved but had no shoulders. It had a few potholes but nothing major. The campground remained almost empty the whole time we were there but understand that on weekends it tends to fill up more. The closest to us was camped over 8 spaces away and were hidden by the trees that help block wind. While they have full hook up sites for the same price we wanted to be within walking distance of the pools so opted for just electric and water. They have a dump station to use before we left. At the pools were restrooms and showers that were clean and private. We enjoyed some of the hikes around the campground but recommend that you remember to bring water, and flashlights, just incase. There was no cell phone service or internet so I went through three days of withdrawls but survived. Down the road four miles is a cell phone spot and the park people will handle emergency calls. We enjoyed the peace and quite of this campground during the week, that was still close to all of the cities where we had to go on the weekend to work.

Here is a picture of the pool building and I will try to get a picture of the inside pool as well but I'm not sure how to post two pictures in one posting.

It was nice, the inside pool was 102 degrees while the outside pool was regulated by the temperature that it came out of the ground. At this time it was about 92 degrees as were the outside showers that were straight from the springs.

Linda, what is the name of the park?

It looks nice. I didn't think there were trees out there that far.

See how nervous I was about putting it on the forum? I forgot the name. Yes, it is Aqua Caliente.

Price was like $18.00 a night for full hook-ups or for electric and water and I think just $14 for non-hook-up sites. That included use of the dump site and the pools.

I had looked at the website for that park some time ago when I was researching parks that had geothermal springs for bathing. In a few years, I want to take a road trip specifically to camp at park with hot springs.

We have so few hot springs here in the East. Maybe a dozen, total. I've only been to one of the eastern geothermal springs...Warm Springs in Georgia. And you're not allowed to swim in that one, unfortunately.

There's a really nice hot springs resort with RV sites in Oregon. I think I'll start another topic to get information about RV spots and hot springs.

Regarding hot springs: many years ago, Ellis and I went to Saline Valley, which is just West of Patamount Valley and Death Valley. To get there, go past Lone Pine on 395, turn East to go to Death Valley and look carefully for a dirt road to Saline Valley. The road is an honest-to-god bumpy dirt and gravel road that takes 4 hours to get to the springs. However, once you get there, it is lovely. Two camping areas. One more popular and one another mile up the road and more quiet. Clothes optional. Outhouses. No electrical or other amenities.

Try Soldier Meadows, a two-hour drive out of Gerlach, NV. Again a long drive down an unpaved road. Be sure to load up in Gerlach - groceries and drinks and gas. Wonderful natural hot springs in a river.

Thanks for the information. I wonder if the road is too rough to take my Casita there? Also, I don't much care for "clothing optional" swimming areas. I reckon I'm a bit of a prude on that subject.
