New Rally Event

Well it was new to us anyway! We were just at a vintage trailer rally at a KOA in Vermont. One of the participants had this event idea. We took the campgrounds new golf cart, made up teams of two, blindfolded the driver, and the other teammate was the "back seat driver" guiding the driver around a course of obstacles laid out like the wickets in a croquet game. We used plastic lawn chairs for the obstacles, plus the two horse shoe pits in the field. Lot of fun, no serious crashes, although at times the lady that owns the campground looked a little nervous when the cart was headed into the woods or had a chair stuck under it. It was a timed event, and Mary & I had the best time, under 2 minutes. How many campgrounds would let us do this!!

Bob,
Congratulations! You and Mary must be married for a long time to take driving directions so well.

Where in Vermont was the rally? We are on our way back from the Vintage Fiberglass Rally on Cape Breton, Baddeck, Nova Scotia. We had a good time with some wonderful friends. We don't travel too far each day, so it's a three day trip back to New Hampshire. A rally in Vermont would be an easy one for us.

Donna, never thought to take pictures Ron, married now for 45 years so I'm well experienced with back seat driving directions . It was Brattleboro VT KOA that did the vintage trailer rally. This is the third one they have done, next one is the last weekend of September. It's supposed to be vintage trailers but she allowed other interesting campers the discount if they participated in the open house tour. There was a 2009 T@DA, an A-Liner, and a converted ambulance owned by Ron & Jane from Maine. For this one we took our 1946 teardrop, maybe in Sept. we'll take the Uhaul like we did last fall. There were about 20 vintage trailer participants, and some other campers were there just because of the rally. Campground was full. The only fiberglass trailer there was a '77 Trillium. And to brag a little more on the driving event, I didn't hit anything and only had to back up once! Next trip is to Chocorau KOA NH on August 4, which trailer, yet to be determined.

Another interesting thing we did at this rally, and led by the same guy that dreamed up the back seat driving event, was an informal discussion group about "gadgets and doodads". It's purpose was to discuss any gadgets or ideas or products that anyone used to enhance their camping experiences. We held it under the tent that is used for pot lucks and the pancake breakfast. And of course this KOA does the free ice cream social on saturday evening. On saturday we also did a tag sale event where we could sell things we no longer needed, and from 1 to 4 in the afternoon the local public was invited in at no charge to view the campers. All this is open to any campers there, not restricted to only the vintage trailer people.

Ron & Jane,
I saw your post while searching for Nova Scotia. We leave next week from Wisconsin headed to Nova. Will also stop in VT on way back for reunion.

What do you advise for a first timer in Nova (3 nights). Shall we move around to different campgrounds?, or park at on (like Cape Breton, Baddeck) and explore? We are outdoor people, like hiking, biking, canoeing and good food.

Thanks
David & Barb
