Newport Beach, CA to Chicago then PA

Newbies here...Leslie and Gary. Out of the blue we bought this U-Haul CT-13 found on this forum from David and Bebe in San Diego, put everything in storage, moved out of our apartment in Newport Beach, CA, hooked the U-Haul CT-13 up to my 1984 Mercedes 300CD and hit the road.

200 miles later we had 2 blown CV boots/joints and we're stuck in Baker, CA. We got towed to Las Vegas, but the AAA RV towing hadn't kicked in yet so we left the trailer in Baker. Then we rented a U-Haul truck, ironic, and drove back to Baker to pick up the CT-13 while the Mercedes was being repaired at the shop.

We got going again on Wednesday. Made it through Nevada, Arizona and on to Utah. Utah is one beautiful, but tough, drive through the mountains. Spent the night there, then on to Colorado which is also a tough drive but not as quite challenging as Utah. I had forgotten how doggy these diesels can be at altitude, but we made it through just fine. Once we got through the Rockies we had smooth sailing through Nebraska, Iowa and on to Illinois.

We're in the Chicagoland area now with family. Then on to PA for a Mercedes GTG. to be continued...

Welcome to FGRV Leslie and Gary,
Appears you are doing the reverse of "Grapes of Wrath" heading east from California...

Hola & Welcome to the Forum.

Neat start with your very neat looking rig. Good you didn't allow little problem(s) stop your trek.

Nice photos.

Safe Travels!
