Ochlockonee River State Park in Sopchoppy Florida

This is a nice low cost campground at $18 + tax for water & electric. Fire ring picnic table, grill, few spots with concrete pads the rest are sandy. Some sites the hookups are on the wrong side. We had the place mostly to ourselves especially at night with only one other RV and a tent camper. Lots of wildlife seen including snow white squirrels, gators, deer, birds & waterfoul, 2 snakes (1 a pigmy rattler). Brackish water is swift moving this weekend and changes levels with the tide. Wakulla Springs is nearby and definitely worth a day trip with 69 degree water year round and a great boat tour where Tarzan and other tv/movies were filmed. Alligator Point is nearby too. Very small towns, not a lot of shoping or restaurants but a few good ones. DW likes the all you can eat crap legs but forgot the restaurants name, and I liked the shrimp at the Tiki Hut on the point...Click image for larger version

I was in Sopchoppy this past March and while the park fees were in the $35 range, I enjoyed the area a lot. I ended up staying at the county park a couple miles up the road for around $12, a real bargain.

We started to stay in Newports campground as the state parks gate was closed the first night but a transformer blew as we were pulling in so we stayed at the Walmart until the gates opened, next time we will ask about gate codes!

We rode down to St. George Island before returning home and the state park campground there looked nice also and was right across from the beach, may have to plan a trip there in the future...
