outer banks hurricane resistance orb

Our maiden voyage was a 2 week camping trip on Ocracoke Island, Outer Banks NC. In 90 degree full sun days, the camper was cool and comfortable for an afternoon siesta. The tiny kitchen served up fresh local fish, shrimp and clams every evening.

The tiny home on wheels became the toast of the National Park campground and we hosted daily tours of the updated interior. Many east coast campers had never seen a Trillium before.

I'm sure the Trillium would have survived hurricane Arthur, but the wife was nervous so we hit the road when the evacuation was issued.

After 25 years camping on the outer banks, mostly in tents, the fiberglass surf shack was total camping luxury.

Sounds like you had a great time, Dan. Cool picture. I can almost smell the seafood!

Hi: camper van reiner... It's amazing how new an idea a Trillium is to some. It's only taken near 40 yrs., to catch on!!! Our Escape 5.0TA is the newest of the new family... Cousins of the Trillium.

Can you post a couple pictures of the campground. I've stayed at Hatteras, Salvo, and Oregon Inlet NPS campgrounds, but haven't stayed at Ocracoke yet.

I stayed at Hatteras in June and it was almost empty. Were there many people at Ocracoke?

welcome! we, too, have camped all over the outer banks and really enjoy it there. we've spent many happy hours watching the kitesurfers at canadian hole.
leaving before Arthur hit was a wise move. no point in risking your new luxury accommodations to the storm!

that ol' Arthur is due to arrive in New Brunswick overnight and thru tomorrow....
we're supposed to get most of the rain...Nova Scotia, the wind.

As we watched the weather reports we wondered
how many campers would be on the banks and if
they knew what was coming. Glad you got out safely
and still had a great time while you were there.

Many, many more luxuries to you in your new little home.

Huck- Ocracoke campground is usually full the week of July 4th. Most other weeks in the summer it's not very crowded, and in the spring and fall it's empty.

Many of my friends and family stayed on the island through the storm. I talked to them today and it sounds like they really dodged a bullet somehow.. there was not much damage to property and no reported injuries. Just some minor flooding on highway 12.

There's a rally this October 2015, "Eggshells in The Outer Banks". More info can be found in the rally forum: http://www.fiberglassrv.com/forums/f...nks-70425.html
