Gina D. recommended that we stay here during our trip to the Oregon Gathering. Railroad Park is one mile South of Dunsmuir, CA, just off I-5 at 100 Railroad Park Road. The 1st thing you see is the "Caboose Motel". A little further west, behind the motel is the campground.

We had a pull-thru, full hook-up site, complete with sewer and cable TV! All in the middle of the woods.

This was nice to have after leaving Bullard's Beach, which seemed to be over too soon.

Toward the "Front" of the property is the "Caboose Motel." Each one is a motel room.

The Dining Car Restaurant is open on Friday and Saturday only, so we missed that. The Office and gift shoppe are next to it in a "Train Station" building. An Engine and water tower are nearby.

The next day, we stopped at Lake Shasta for a late breakfast. While we were there, one of the fire-fighting tanker planes was moored on the lake. The parking lot was a little steep. Thank goodness I had parking brakes on the trailer. (Between the wheels)

What a great park, nice website too. Did you take a dip in the pool?

The Oregon Gathering is ALWAYS over too soon.

We were in space #8 of the RV park/ Campground.
(Map is oriented so that the top is facing SOUTH)

The Caboose Motel is a separate property.
(Map is oriented so that the top is facing WEST)

The "Walk to Train" area of the campground map connects to space between Caboose #25 and Cabin #6.

This is a cottage rental unit available on Galiano Island, one of the Canadian Gulf Islands between Victoria and Vancouver. It's where we spent our 25th anniversary. One of its neat features is an outdoor bathtub, with views of the passing ferries. Course, they have views of us in the tub, but I think we got the better of that deal.
cheers
Ian

"You may not use electricity to heat your unit."

Does anyone know where I can get a hand-crank for my propane heater in case I stay at the Railroad park?

It was about 2 or 3 decades ago that the Trailer Goddess and I made repeted trips from B.C. down to southern California. I remember stopping here on MANY trips (being a railroader and 'semi'-railroad buff). This was obviously before the place became a resort. The (then) owners were still amassing their collection of rolling stock, some of which I must say was REAL taddy, so they have done a super job in their re building and remodeling. At that time the 'lake' was usually just a dry gulch but on some trips we DID see water in it. There was at that time NO sign of a campground although we had chatted with (owners???) people about the places future and we were told that they wanted to collect some rolling stock and restore them. If I remember rightly there is also another railroad park somewhere down there ( on the other side of I-5??)that offers (among other things) rides on a steam powered train. This place also is in a park or sorts but (at that time) NOT a resort or r/v park. I believe that in California on the coast there is yet another railroad motel that offers 'rooms' in converted railcars.

Not wanting to hijack this thread, BUT.....has anyone else ridden the Skunk Train???
