Rampart Range Road

Has anyone boondocked on Rampart Range Road in Colorado? We're going to be up that way later this month. Thought about boondocking a couple of days.
Curious as to how the road is. We have a 17ft Casita. Want to make sure the roads are friendly.

Rampart Range Road is extremely busy and it could be a bit difficult finding a spot. And it's a major site for dirt bikes so you can expect a lot of noise from dawn to dusk. As for the road itself, it's dirt but usually in pretty well-maintained condition. Devil's Head Fire Lookout attracts a lot of hikers.

If you want some suggestions about boondocking around the Denver area, PM me and let me know your requirements. There's places reasonably close.

I live about 30 minutes from there and we were very hopeful when we moved here 22 years ago to use that area as a quick get-a-way, but I totally agree with Terry. We have tried going there on many occasions and never got any rest due to the ATV and dirt bikes and rules for quiet time are not followed. Terry is also correct about the roads. Enjoy your stay in the area.

We're participating in the Memorial Ruck March in Castle Rock on the 25th.
We may just make our way down towards New Mexico. The wife has to be back at work on the 28th.

Rampart Range

Glad to see this discussion. It confirms what the Good Sam guidebook says about devil's head and two others in that area. We figured the ATV traffic would create a lot of noise pollution. We are staying at Chatfield State Park May 19th through 24 and we are also looking for somewhere to spend the memorial day weekend. We have just about decided that we will have to leave the Denver area and go south towards New Mexico. Every place I have checked near Denver is booked for that weekend and in fact every weekend for the next couple months.

There's a campground at Rampart Reservoir. It is rustic no hookups. Very pretty though. Check it out. We stayed there one time on a late May weekend and it did not fill up but that was quite a while ago.

Yes, we will be at our favorite CO campground, Clear Creek in Golden. Reservations were made 60 days in advance, always booked up.

Am I the only one who read this headline as 'Rampant Road Rage'?
