Smile S. Calif. sites needed w/hookups for possible rally in April 2012

Hi Everyone,

Some of us who were at the Lake Casitas rally are trying to find a place for another rally. It needs to be S. Calif in the Orange/San Diego counties area. Looking to possible dates in March or April, before Lake
San Antonio in May. Probably a private not State area is best.
Nice to see everyone who attended Lake Casitas. Hope all the newbies had a good time and will join us again.

Cool Suggestion:

County of San Diego: Agua Caliente County Park
I've always wanted to try this place. April would be a good time.

Steve & Rosemary - Frederick's suggestion of Agua Caliente is really worth it for a rally. While I was there I was wondering why it wasnt being used for a rally as they have every thing you would need. They have a group area with covered tables as well as big horse shoe pits, the hot springs pools (which are free to campers) with showers - One is covered and it was 102 degrees. They have lots of power sites as well as dry sites all big and well spaced out. The views from the sites are great! The price was also right and the staff were very nice.

Make sure though that you tell people going that they need to bring fire wood and all their food & drinks as there is a little store there that is only open a couple of days a week and it does not carry much and its very pricey. The next place to buy food is in Julian about a 40 min drive up into the mountains to a very high elevation - its a great drive up to Julian which is a cute little town to visit for the day but the climb up to it is high and it snowed there while I was at Agua sitting in the sun with my flip flops on. Also note that my GPS was off by about two miles as to the entrance to the park off the S2 - it told me I had arrived at my destination but I was in the middle of nothing :-) There are signs on the S2 at the entrance to the park though - so you cant miss it.

Cool Winter camping

I thought you California types camped in the winter!

How about a rally in January?

(If you do, you may see Homelet)

BTW, How far is it from Mt Palomar. That is the place with the big reflector is it not?

Any other suggestions near San Diego?
I have some cousins I would like to visit there, but in Jan 2009 we stayed at the Good Sam's in La Mesa for $60/nite. $$$$$
Too much for my tired ole wallet.

from Agua Caliente County Park to Palomar Observatory - Google Maps

Looks to be about 63 1/2 miles and 2 hours on very scenic but twisty curvy 2 lane highways.

LOL Yup Frederick - going up to Agua on the S2 from the south is not to twisty but past Agua Caliente things get very twisty and narrow with lots of steep drops - with little to stop you from going over the edge. Its a cool road to travel on and as you say very scenic with lots of history sites to stop and check out. I towed up it without a problem but I would not do it in the dark. :-)

Based on the recommendation from this thread we took Sisquatch aka BabyFoot to Agua Caliente for her maiden voyage and it was a great success (outside of a technical problem or two).

The weather, hot springs, camp sites-views and overall quality and maintenance of the facility is top notch. And at $28-night for full hookups. One caveat is there are no hookups at the group site although it is within easy walking distance from the nearest loop.
