Wonderful spot, but reservations are made way out. We got lucky, showed up and had the kids look hungry and tired so the rangers felt sorry for us and got us cancellations for two nites, but we had to change sites.

First nite was a fabulous site on the cliff overlooking the ocean: (Site 149)

The stairs down the cliff to the beach were at the back left of our site:

Second nite was site 37 which was nice but not as incredible as the first one:

Most all of these are "dry sites" and definitely would go with 146-149 before I went with any of the hookup sites.
Price was $25 a nite and they do seem to count the trailer as a vehicle so you get the extra $10 a nite for total of $35. Didn't Gina start them doing that to cut down traffic at her favorite CA parks?

First time we'd used the Scamper "boondocking" and all the water and propane systems worked without any issues.

Angry

On CA parks web site: "Supplementary Fees Additional Motor Vehicle (Driven, not towed)* Same as vehicle parking
(Day Use Fee) *Note: Most campsites are limited to two vehicles " Unless your Scamp has a motor added as a mod, it is not a vehicle. Must be an over zealous fee taker.

A little power goes to their heads!

Sounded like a nice area. I hate having to do Reservations, I long for the days of first come first served.

I think the extra 10.00 was for an ocean site. I checked the state website and they charge 35 for ocean side and 25 for inland. Mike

I think your right Mike. The ranger just said it wrong when we checked in.
Forget reservations on these parks. We went to the reservation to book next Aug 08 and there're are no spaces available from March 1 Thru Aug 8 2008. Only way in is how we did it and just show up for the cancellations.

I discovered this info page that tells how far in advance reservations can be made for San Elijo. It looks like you're just trying too soon.

From the info page: "On the first of each month, campers will have access to an entire month of available start dates, up to 7 months in advance. Count the month you are in as month number one. For instance, if you count September as the first month you can make reservations for all dates beginning in March."

So, try again in February for August '08!
