We have just gotten back from a trip to Colorado Springs and Manitou Springs area, we camped at South Meadows CG of the Pike's Nat'l Forest just out side of Woodland Park a few miles. It was a very nice site, the Camp Hosts keep the place spotless. Drawbacks were the pit toilets but they were new and kept clean and no dump site exect down the road off a dirt road with a fee of $10. We spend from Monday Sept 30 to last Sunday, Aug something, loose track of dates while camping. We enjoyed Manitou Springs, Garden of the Gods, the Cheyenne Mt. Zoo and visiting with our son and his family. They also went to Cripple Creek and did the cog train ride to Pike's Peak and a day fishing. We did go along on the fishing as observers. We enjoyed our one year old granddaughter the most of course. Two sets of grandparents and one of great gp met up there to celeprate her first birthday. Our daughter drove out to NM from Tucson and came along (3 in the egg worked well) and we brought our old 13 year old dog along as well. We did two vechiles this trip. The dog had the back seat of the car to sleep in. We all had a great time. We passed by some of those parking lot CG's but enjoyed camping in a little less civilized place, IE, running water, electric and pit toilets. But as my mother-in-law likes to say, "To each his own". $15 a night, not bad for the area. Next year I'll be able to get a Golden Eagle Pass or whatever they are calling it now, which would help some on the cost.
