South Texas campground recommendations

We're planning to be in south Texas the last week of January and are seeking recommendations for camping sites in the vicinity of South Padre Island and also McAllen. There are lots of great state parks in TX, but none this far south.
Thanks

There's a county park at S. Padre that's okay. The campsites are all really close together, but it actually helps with the wind. I haven't been there in years (since they closed the Bentsen Rio Grande State Park) but it looks like it's prolly still open and fine.

I couldn't get this link to open (you may be more patient):
Isla Blanca Park

Here's another link that might be helpful:

Long Island village is where I live during the winter. Lots to do, in out pools, golf,
Gated,

You can even park on the beach. A couple from BC stay on the beach all winter.

We are currently in the south of Texas. We are staying in Pharr in a resort park. There are good rates to be had for a month long stay. The McAllen area is not quite as windy as the San Padre Island Area. Activities abound and the people are very friendly. Twin Lakes Campground is very reasonable and quiet. Or you could rent a nice pad site from an owner at Green Garden Grove resort. Have a good trip and enjoy Texas

We'll only be in So. TX for 4-6 days. A lot of those parks don't want to mess with short-timers.

Thanks,

David

It might take you that long just to drive South through Texas ...
