I am hoping to get recommendations for non-state park campgrounds that are more than just RV pads. We are a young-ish family and have family and friends who love Fort Stevens. The problem? We can never get our rears into gear soon enough to get reservations. I am hoping that there are some private campgrounds that might have spaces still available for the summer.

TIA!

I really think you will find alot of campground full or nearly full during the summer months... spaces you get might not be ideal but its take what you get. There are many nice campground around the Randle area ( most are not with serviced sites) These are in the Gifford-Pinchot national forest.. http://www.fs.fed.us/gpnf/recreation/curre...mpgrounds.shtml I am sure reservations are required like the state parks. if you've never been up that way its very pretty...
There is Cougar RV park and campgrounds in Cougar WA Anyways I dont know what direction you folks want to go... I have a NW campbook put out by AAA its a 2002 addition tho..

Thanks for the link, Christi. We like to camp on the coast as we love the beach.

You might consider the KOA in Warrenton/Astoria. Its a bit spendie but has lots to offer including a "tour bus" ride down to and along the ocean shore. Pool/Hot tub are supurb! They have a large well stocked store. Pancake breakfasts and Ice Cream Socials too!
Been there many times and in fact a group of us are amassing there for the week of July 4nd!

Although it is not the beach, there is a great campground at Skamokawa, Washington (near Cathlamet), right on the Columbia River. Skamawoka Vista Park. Lots to do around there, too. Skamokawa

Jackie - Vista Park is one of our favorites. We have been going there for about 14 years. It has become quite popular. We were going to drive out there a couple of weekends ago to figure out which spaces to reserve this summer but the roads were closed due to mud slides.

We haven't been any further south than Nehalem Bay, OR. And we haven't been any further north than Cape Disappointment in Ilwaco, WA. We still have a lot of exploring to do.

Rick and Shannen,

We always liked Fort Steven's Campground along the coast around the Astoria area (northern coast of Oregon). It's a huge campground but the sites are nice and there are lots of walking and bicycle trails. One warning - it rains there often, year round. Here's the link for Fort Steven's.

One of our favorites in Washington State (it is a state park but no reservations are taken) is Camano Island. Exit 212 on the I5, north of Everett. The deer and bald eagles outside our door, not to mention the high bluff view of the ocean from our site, brings back great memories. Mostly open year round.

I just realized this topic is for the southern coast.
