County of San Diego: Agua Caliente County Park

"(It) is best known for its geothermally heated springs. Three naturally fed pools provide different ways of enjoying the park's mineral water: There are two pools outdoors, and an indoor therapeutic spa is heated to 102 degrees and outfitted with Jacuzzi jets." Full hook-ups are available ($28), or you may choose partial hook-ups ($24) or no hook-ups ($19).

Unfortunately Anzo Borrega doesn't permit dogs on trails. Darn! It looked very appealing to me.

But it does say dogs are allowed on many dirt roads in the park. I think the trails tend to lead to water sources that wild animals use and as it says dog scents may scare the wild creatures away. But it may be ok to take your dogs many places in the park just not on certain trails and water sources. Perhaps a call to a ranger will help you decide.

Cheers John

Here is a link you need. Go to the link and then scroll down to their link to the "Anza-Borrego Desert State Park Magazine, pdf." On page nine of the magazine they talk about dogs being OK in the campground and on dirt roads, but not OK on trails. Anza-Borrego Desert SP

Yes, that was the disappointing part of Anza Borrego when I went through there after the Quartzsite gathering in 2010, No dogs on the trails.

It was OK for dogs everywhere except the trails. I didn't like the idea of leaving Lily in the trailer for the day while I was out hiking so I didn't go hiking. I cut my stay short and headed for places she can come with me. As it turned out that was all the way home.

Our dogs need freedom to explore and the younger one needs to run a lot. I have concluded from my reading that deserts are not safe places for dogs off leash due to cholla cactus which embeds in paws and mouths and rattlesnakes, which I doubt my dogs would leave alone. Sadly, I think I will look for other venues this winter.
