We're on a road trip from Florida to Massachusetts in our 16 ft Scamp towed by a 4 banger/5 speed Chevy Colorado. Truck is maxed out but is handling things just fine. Averaging between 16 and 20 mpg depending on conditions. Just two of us and our mini-dacshound Molly.

Here's a photo from Tranter's Creek Campground near Washington, North Carolina. Not our favorite place but it ranks a 4 star rating in Woodall's (more like a 2 in my opinion). Yes it has a pool, full hook-ups, wireless internet (not free) but the spaces are in an open field and so close together that our neighbor's sewage hook-up was under our picnic table. On the plus side, we really didn't need to rig our awning as the motor home next to us provided plenty of shade.

Here's a photo, we get the same amenities as the other guys.

Dang Ron, how'd ya ever find that place? I know we don't have much to offer in the way of campgrounds in eastern NC (unless you're on the coast) but that's just awful. I live within 30-40 miles of Washington and never heard it. Sure hope you fair better as your trip continues.

We went to Tranter's Creek Campground the second year it opened. What a disappointment. If I remember right the charge for camping was not all that reasonable either. The trees were just planted, about 3 feet tall at the time, needless to say no shade in the open field. The owners were very nice and I think they are trying to make it a good campground but it has years ahead of it to really get developed. To add to it nothing is in the area to tour other than Little Washington, so it is not a destination drawl. We have also camped at Twin Lakes in Little Washington which had nice shaded campsites but for the most part it was more seasoned park models than weekend vacationers. If you did not have a boat, again there was nothing to do in the area or even at the campground for that matter.

Sadly North Caroling in the eastern part has few campgrounds to select from and the entire state has the very few state parks with hook upís. North Carolina is Beautiful state but the Piedmont and Coastal sections are slim picking for camping. The two campgrounds along the coast south of Morehead City were sold to condoís and that only leaves Holiday Park at Emerald Isle, but again you canít even put out an awning and the cost is close to $60.00 a night in the summer. Now that they are the only campground on the island the price may have even gone up more. Not a quiet restful place to go to and more kids than a school yard at lunch recess.

North Carolina, for all of its beauty, has a truly pathetic state park system. I live here and I can state authoritatively that our state park system is many notches below that of most other states. It's a shame, actually.

A few of our parks have water and electric hookups, but by no means all of them. The most recent park to get them for their campground was Stone Mountain State Park, and South Mountains State Park is in the process of building a new campground with water and electric hookups for RVs.
