USA flood affecting travel east/west?

Hi

This is my first posting! I hope I'm doing is right as I'm using the Android app.

We bought a Trillium trailer and we are planning to travel highway 20 through Nebraska into Iowa in July. Should we be concerned about getting across re the flooding that is going on now? I have visions of our trailer floating downstream with our kids in it. ;-)

And tips on where to cross or will it not really be a problem? We've never been in those parts of the US let alone around a flood.

Thanks in advance!

I would assume Nebraska and Iowa SHP would be able to tell you current road conditions as well as DOT in each state. That's where I would start. I'd wait until right before leaving before checking.

We watch Headline News and The Weather channel.
We Choose interstate highways with the high bridges.

It's the southwest corner of Iowa that is floating away. I am to take a trip by Amtrak the middle of next month and will have to go through Minot, ND. So far the train is still running according to the web site.

It took me about 1 minute to figure out what SHP meant - I'm from Canada!

I checked the websites and they provide good info.

I'm guessing the big interstate highways will be fine. We're so excited about our first Trill trip. 2 months+ on the road!

Thank you for the tips.

SHP? And I'm clueless from the USA.

This morning the news said Minot, ND was at one of the highest flood stages ever and they expected it to go another 5 feet more.

Fires, floods and tornadoes. Looks like we picked a perfect year to break into RVing! ;-)

They've suspended Amtrak from going through Minot, ND. Hopefully by the time I go things will be operating through that part of the country.

Paul,

I don't know what to tell you---I'm here in Omaha NE on the boarder of NE/Iowa. They are saying there is still more flooding to come (like we're only through 47% of it). Just keep using the above websites mentioned.

As for the big interstate highways--they are not immune, either. I-29 has been closed in certain sections.

There is a construction closing on Hwy. 20 at the Cedar-Dixon County line in Nebraska. If you'd be in that area, you would be directed to take the detour. Don't know how many miles the detour is---could be just a few (or not).

Minot flooding reported to be 2 feet less than estimated however the water is still op to the eves of the 2 story houses. It would appear that it will start receding now.

SHP and I thought it was something dirty.
