Smile Vermont Camping

Visited the Rest n Nest Campground in E. Thetford, VT, just north of White River Junction. Good central location for visiting Central VT and NH. Close to King Arthur Flour Store and beautiful Woodstock, VT. Campground is run by a very nice couple and most sites have full service. Its location is convenient to the highway (Rtes 91 and 89) but there is some highway noise. Bathrooms and showers are very clean and are set up as individual restrooms, nothing communal.

We luved Vermont when we were there 10 years ago. It was quite the climb getting up to Stowe State Park. The road we took had switch backs. The 150HP Nissan Van got a work out towing the 2,000lb Coleman up that road.

Sounds like Rt 108 through Smugglers Notch. Several times a year someone with a big RV or truck ignores the signs and gets stuck at the top where the road winds through the rocks. Ties things up in both directions for several hours. They announce it on the radio. Sort of a traffic alert.

Ginger, you were in what is called the "upper valley" of the Connecticut river. That's one of the nicest parts of the state. Lots of small towns, back roads, country stores, ect. A little off the tourist beat.

Yes Raz, we are DH skiers and I recall driving by Smugglers Notch on that road. I am usually attentive but have to admit not seeing the warning signs about the steep winding climb. I recall commenting to the BH that there should have been some signs warning of the aggressive road conditions.

Wondering if any other forum members have towed a trailer up that road.

It is interesting a pal warned us about the climbs in Vermont before we left. He said his brother got in trouble there with his V8 Monte Carlo towing a small pop up. The car over heated on a climb so he unhooked the trailer, turned it and the car around and went back home.
